What this photo doesn't show is my portable feeding pump that delivers liquid food through a tube directly into my stomach. I'm hooked up to this 12 hours a day. I've been nil by mouth for over a year now and this way of living never gets any easier. It's a relentless routine that shapes every part of my day. But here's the positive: it keeps me nourished, it keeps me going and, most importantly, it means I can still get out and walk!

Would you know I had pneumonia, a heart condition, Stage IV head and neck cancer and I'm 4 weeks out of major abdominal surgery? Appearances don't tell you the whole story. You can see how someone looks, but you can't always see what it takes for them to keep going.

Four weeks ago, I was fighting for my life on ICU. Today I'm fighting to reclaim it. I’m far from recovered and my cancer treatment has been paused but my aim is to get back onto immunotherapy as I get fitter and hopefully my heart condition can be stabilised.

Then: "we support legalising assisted dying in principle, but we must improve palliative care first!"
Now: absolute silence
A wholly predictable cop-out which assisted dying campaigners saw from a mile away.

We are deeply saddened by the death of Dame Esther Rantzen.
A true force of nature, Dame Esther fought throughout her life for people’s rights, and latterly for dying people who needed more choice and compassion.
Our heartfelt condolences are with her family and loved ones.

So the Terminally Ill Adults bill falls.
A significant number of those not voting in favour say they support assisted dying in principle but not this bill.
Therefore parliamentarians must now find a satisfactory way to give people the choice they want.

It's been 1 year since we launched our campaign to improve financial security for terminally ill people and we are pleased that 27 councils across England have introduced a council tax exemption for people with a terminal illness.

A week ago to now. What a difference seven days can make.
I’ve picked up pneumonia while I’ve been here, and my heart has also been affected, so I’m now on medication for that too.
It’s been another difficult and unexpected turn, but I’m still here, still fighting and still taking things one day at a time.

Thirteen-year-old Jake passed away just two weeks before his 14th birthday after what his mum thought was just severe hay fever turned out to be an aggressive cancer 💔
Before he was diagnosed, Jake's mum Lynsey was giving him antihistamines before school because he had a stuffy nose and watery eyes.
She put his sheer exhaustion down to the warm summer weather and the end of the school term.
But when a swelling appeared across the bridge of his nose, an X-ray at Salisbury District Hospital revealed a mass in his nasal cavity.
Jake was diagnosed with stage 3 fusion-positive alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer, in July 2023.
He went through nine rounds of chemotherapy and 28 sessions of proton beam radiotherapy in London, but the cancer still spread to his lymph nodes.
When further chemotherapy caused severe seizures that placed him in intensive care, Jake made the brave decision to stop his treatment entirely.
Lynsey said he was incredibly calm about it, simply telling her, "We tried our best."
He even managed to joke that at least he wouldn't have to deal with the cost-of-living crisis.
Jake passed away peacefully at home on April 26, 2024.
Before he died, he gave strict instructions for his own funeral, asking for a blue coffin and for 'Here Comes The Sun' by the Beatles to be played 💙
His final wish to his mum was that he wanted to be well-known and not forgotten.
Lynsey is now honouring that promise by joining forces with a children's cancer charity and studying radiotherapy at the University of Liverpool.
RIP Jake, you won't be forgotten 🕊️

Moments ago MPs voted against Lauren Edwards MP’s assisted dying bill, by 286 to 270.
This is a devastating setback for dying people - but make no mistake, this issue is not going away. Law change on assisted dying remains a matter of when - not if. The British public demands that Parliament listen, and terminally ill people and families will not rest until they do.

Welcome to the UK where thousands of people who are already dying, and want to die a bit quicker, are not allowed to. And thousands of people who don’t want to die end up dying because they can’t get access to the right care quickly.

I can't quite believe I have ended up in intensive care again but here I am. This time it is a perforated duodenum causing peritonitis. The magnificent staff at Nottingham NUH have saved my life for the 4th time and I couldn't wish for better care. Everyone has been superb.
Terrible news - thanks for sharing, Jane.
Neil is one of the greats of quality of life measurement. It was an honour to work with him in EORTC.
So sad to hear of the death of Neil Aaronson. @FallowfieldLJ @drol007 @EORTC_QLG - so many memories over decades.

I cannot stop thinking about Jack Lees choosing to swim back into the rip for the third student.
On 4 June 2024, at Northcott Mouth in Cornwall, three young women were caught in a powerful rip current. Jack and his friend Zaid Anfoka helped two out of the rip. Jack then went back for the third.
He stayed with her for about 40 minutes until she escaped the current. All three women made it back. Jack, 20, did not.
I feel heartbroken by what his courage cost him. I think Britain should know his name (I wish more people did).
Had you heard Jack’s name before?

“Exhausted by but addicted to doomscrolling, sliding from one terrifying headline to another, it’s easy to forget we are all in the same unsteady boat, north or south, young or old, lower, middle and even upper class, ignoring the culprits hiding in plain sight. It’s not the foreigners, legal or illegal, who are pissing on us; it’s the billionaires who own the media and the internet and can pay the debts of the political parties they want to control, and fuck the rest of us.
Well, I’m not putting up with it any longer. And neither need you. Let’s have a laugh. It’s the antidote (and all the ammunition) we need to those arseholes who forget that Britain was great before they were born – we can see right through them.
Never forget that laughter is a good medicine, ridicule and satire can change minds.. I refuse to be cut off from the wealth of possibilities that Britain and Ireland offer. Let’s live, have fun, learn new tastes, new words, new mastications. Build bridges, cross chasms. And before we go to the moon again, let’s reap the benefits strangers in our midst offer. It’s not their fault that things are tough. It’s ours. This is my middle finger to naysayers, Nigel Farage and everyone who says “whatever”. It’s time to be Great Britain again – or at least Better Britain”.

Many people pointed out under the original post that capturing these sorts of transits is actually pretty easy if you post up under the flight path and have software to watch for transits.
This was a challenge because my monster solar scope is bolted to the ground 🤣
This pic is UNREAL... except it's absolutely real.
Astrophotographer @AJamesMcCarthy took 1.7 million photos of the sun over six days to capture this shot of UA 2460 flying from IAH to LAX, a photo he calls one of the luckiest of his career. Lucky for us, we get to share it with you on National Aviation Day!
