I don’t speak of this often but listening to Nigel Farage in tonight’s debate I must. My dad was an immigrant. From the moment he arrived in this country he worked hard every day in labouring jobs. My most vivid recollection is of his tired & weary eyes and oil stained overalls when he came home after a 12 hour factory shift. Even then he was able to raise a smile for us. He was kind & gentle & loved my mum with passion. He raised a family of 4 & instilled in each of us a fierce sense of right & wrong & love of country. His proudest day was when he became a British citizen. I recall him with love & affection & pride & carry the lessons he taught me in my heart every day. If it were not for my dad I would not be a lawyer today & in his memory I work hard everyday to make a difference for as many as I can. Immigration is a beautiful thing & don’t let charlatans like Farage tell you otherwise ❤️

This is one of the most extraordinary details in art history. The mirror in Van Eyck's Arnolfini Portrait. The couple, seen from behind, and two other figures, one of whom may be the painter himself. But in the reflection the couple is not holding each other's hands Am I seeing it wrong?

Nick Robinson: "there were three different prime ministers in a year, four different chancellors in a year, a home secretary sacked for six days then hired again and sacked again a year later, a prime minister who was forced out of office because he was judged to be lying by his own colleagues in Parliament, and another who even *you* think crashed the economy: Why on earth should people give the Conservatives another team?" Rishi Sunak (long pause) "I'm really proud of what the Conservatives have done in office, when we came into office 14 years ago Labour had bankrupted the economy"

Thread on the #Shitstalgia trend
Please beware the Twitter accounts sharing seemingly harmless nostalgia, which are, in reality, spreading xenophobia and racism. @Otto_English has dubbed this trend #Shitstalgia. Here is a case in point: Sandy of Suffolk.... 1/n

Polyrhythm is the simultaneous use of two or more rhythms. Tapping exercises with the metronome are important to master the most basic of polyrhythms. And it's something that requires huge coordination. [📹 Débora Noemi] xitter.cf/i/status/1788071359144…

And … the economic damage is not the worst part of Brexit. Speak to anyone involved in the diplomatic world and they will tell you that British influence is severely diminished. And that is a very bad thing indeed in an increasingly unstable world. How anyone in government with half a brain could have advocated this path is beyond me.
