This glass-wrapped train lounge was built in 1948. Named Cedar Rapids, it was designed by Brooks Stevens for the Milwaukee Road’s Hiawatha service between Chicago and the Twin Cities. Its distinctive Skytop lounge featured windows extending into the roof, giving passengers wide views of the landscape behind the train. Only four Skytop parlor-observation cars were built. Cedar Rapids was acquired by the Friends of the 261 in 1998, restored, and returned to service.
