That’s a wrap on the last event I’ll ever cover for the @dailybruin!
Immensely grateful to everyone who has followed along over the last three years. Truly has been the defining experience of my time at UCLA. – at Fort Worth, TX

My name is Isabelle Friedman, and I'm the editor in chief of the Daily Bruin, UCLA's independent student newspaper. It seems like I've only just now had a chance to sit and truly reflect on the events of the past week.
I couldn’t be more proud to announce that @DBSports earned first place in @collegemedia's 2022-23 Best Web Sports Section as the best sports section in the country.
I’m so grateful to our readers and our amazing staff who made this incredible achievement possible.
This award is a huge testament to the tireless work of the entire staff @DBSports, but I want to give a special shoutout to my team of assistant editors: @JosephCrosbyDB, @DBgracewhitaker, @JackNelsonDB, @LaurynWangDB, and @AmyIonescuDB.
Words can't express my gratitude to you.
I also want to shout out our entire staff of writers. I wish I could name every single contributor, but here's a few: @JonChristonDB, @francismoonDB, @GavinCarlsonDB, @thebenroyer, and @JayFennDB.
@DBSports is lucky to be home to some of the most talented writers in the country.

When I covered my first gymnastics meet, I had no idea working for the @dailybruin would become the defining experience of my life. But the last three years gave me memories I’ll cherish forever.
I’m forever indebted to everyone who made that possible. dailybruin.com/2023/06/11/ce…
The Tokyo Olympics were supposed to be the final act of @ChilesJordan’s elite career.
But after two years with @uclagymnastics, Chiles wants another shot at her Olympic dreams with Paris 2024.
And as for the final act? Don’t count out a return to UCLA. dailybruin.com/2023/06/11/im…
.@DBSports has crowned its 2022-2023 Female Athlete of the Year: @uclagymnastics’ Jordan Chiles.
@ChilesJordan set the nation’s top all-around score, won two individual NCAA titles and helped lead UCLA back to nationals for the first time since 2019. dailybruin.com/2023/06/11/su…

“I’m so grateful to be able to spend another year being a part of this program! I can’t wait to soak in every moment with this amazing group of athletes, coaches, support staff, and community!! Let’s go ring shopping! 😤🏆💍💅” - @EmmaAndres9
ICYMI: If you’re having NCAA gymnastics withdrawals, @thebenroyer and I talked to Janelle McDonald about a whole bunch of things @uclagymnastics-related and published 3,000+ words of that conversation.
Give it a read! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Two weeks after @uclagymnastics' season ended, @thebenroyer and I sat down with Janelle McDonald to get her thoughts on:
- top memories from year one with UCLA 🤸♀️
- vault upgrades 📈
- the transfer portal 🔁
- judging inconsistencies 👀
And much more ⬇️

The transfer portal may not be as big in gymnastics as it is elsewhere in collegiate sports, but UCLA isn't shying away from using the portal to its advantage.
"Yeah, we're talking to some (transfers)."dailybruin.com/2023/05/02/qa…
NCAA gymnastics coaches will meet later this month, and although it's not a rule-change year, there will be plenty to discuss – including judging inconsistencies.
"There's definitely a pull to try to help standardize the expectation across the country."dailybruin.com/2023/05/02/qa…
Not to disappoint, but this is far from any sort of sixth-year or transfer announcement lol. Just a fun story coming out today.
.@SamSettlemanDB and I have got something cooking for the gymternet tomorrow 👀🤸♀️
Make sure you’re following @DBSports to be the first to see what’s up. You won’t want to miss this.

ALT “I am pleased to announce my fifth year as a member of the UCLA Gymnastics team. It has been an honor to wear the four letters these past four years, and I am incredibly grateful to have the opportunity for one more. I feel I have so much more to bring and that I have some unfinished business on the competition floor. I’ll see you all in Pauley next year!” - Chloe Lashbrooke

Despite not knowing when or if they'll be back, Chiles and Frazier say @uclagymnastics is going to be just fine without them.
"Everything I’ve learned from anybody I’ve trained with at UCLA is ingrained in me. You just have to keep that momentum going.”
