Texans made it clear that they are rightfully concerned about the implementation of the 765-kV lines. @TPPF supports @LtGovTX and @DrSchwertner calls to ensure the Legislature has a chance to provide clear direction on how best to address this issue.
Over the last several years, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the Public Utility Commission (PUC) have studied the current and future power needs of Texas. Huge (new to Texas) 765-kV transmission lines to increase power around the state are a part of their plan.    Unfortunately, neither the PUC nor ERCOT have followed through with a plan that is supported by the vast majority of Texas landowners. The PUC and ERCOT both acknowledged as much during an over 15- hour Senate Business and Commerce Committee hearing on Wednesday.    Hour after hour, witness after witness testified they did not have adequate notice and have no idea where the lines are going because of constant route changes. They also accused ERCOT, the PUC, and the transmission companies of rushing through the process that could significantly affect the use of their land. It’s clear the overwhelming number of witnesses in rural Texas are not supportive of the current process. They want it paused. Some want it stopped entirely.    Everyone agrees Texas needs the transmission necessary to meet the growing needs of the state. However, support for ERCOT’s 765-kV transmission plan should not come at the expense of private property rights.   I agree with Chairman Schwertner in calling on the PUC to deny the pending applications for 765-kV transmission lines, and not consider re-applications, until the transmission companies can address the serious concerns raised by landowners at Wednesday’s hearing.    The testimony made it abundantly clear the current process being utilized by the PUC for proposing and approving transmission lines is broken and must be reformed. If these lines are going to be built, which many believe must be built, then the PUC’s transmission approval process must not only prioritize strengthening the grid, but also protect Texas landowners and communities. During the 90th Legislative Session beginning in January 2027, the Texas Senate will prioritize addressing this issue. Below is a statement released today by Senate Business and Commerce Committee Chairman Charles Schwerterner, who oversees this issue.

Announcing our comprehensive policy agenda for K-12 and higher education: Increase funding for educational savings accounts: Expand upon 2025 success by increasing the program’s capacity. Trustee Transparency and Oversight Act: Guarantees school trustees unrestricted access to district financial records and procurement documents to ensure oversight and fiduciary accountability. Bring Real Accountability to Texas Schools: Ensure Texas schools are held to clear, outcomes-based standards by making student performance, spending, and results transparent Giving Aspiring Teachers Real Prep: Reforms teacher preparation programs to emphasize practical teaching skills rather than just educational theory. Work-Based Learning: A Future for All Students: Expands flexibility for high schools to use Career and Technology Education funds to support paid apprenticeships through community partnerships and non-profit intermediaries. Simplifying the Public School Finance Formula: Seeks to simplify Texas' overly complex public school funding formula to improve transparency for parents and lawmakers. Bring Home the Mississippi Miracle: Implement mandatory reading benchmarks from kindergarten to third grade to improve literacy rates. Experience Matters Act: Recognize proven experience and skills as valid qualifications for state and education leadership roles, reducing unnecessary degree requirements that limit opportunity and talent. Physical Fitness Requirements for K-12: Proposes stricter PE standards and daily fitness requirements in K-12 to address health and discipline. Accreditation Commission: Establishes a Texas Higher Education Accreditation Commission to approve accrediting agencies based on student outcomes, with institutions losing funding if they fail to switch from underperforming accreditors. Allow Military Experience to Substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree in State Jobs: Allows veterans’ military service to qualify in place of a college degree for Texas state jobs (excluding licensed professions), helping solve state labor shortages. Close Down Schools of Education and Recommend Best Alternative Teacher Certification Track: Proposes eliminating university schools of education, which are seen as centers of ideological activism and poor teacher preparation, and replacing them with charter-style alternative certification programs. Safe Schools and Fair Standards: Revises the legal definition of harassment in higher education to match Supreme Court precedent and protect campus free speech. Contextualized Transcripts: Requires college transcripts to include class average grades alongside student grades to counter grade inflation and improve workforce competitiveness. General Education Act: Mandates a core curriculum in Western civilization, civics, and liberal education principles for public universities, restoring foundational knowledge in higher education. The Campus Intellectual Diversity Act: Requires public universities to host and publicly document regular, balanced debates on major public policy issues—while empowering student groups to request topics and preventing security costs from being used to suppress disfavored viewpoints. This policy agenda builds on the hard work of the Legislature and the State Board of Education to ensure that every step of the education system is oriented towards providing high quality instruction to students. The proposed solutions are designed to expand education freedom, improve student outcomes, strengthen transparency and accountability, and restore academic excellence across Texas.

Today we are announcing our Liberty Action Agenda Top 10, a comprehensive list of the most important policy priorities Texas should advance during the 90th Legislative Session in 2027. Eliminate Taxpayer-Funded Lobbying to stop local governments from using public dollars to hire unaccountable lobbyists. Eliminate School Property Taxes and Rein in Local Spending by continuing to reform our property tax system and requiring balanced, responsible local budgets. Ensure Affordable, Reliable Energy and Safeguard Water Infrastructure by strengthening grid reliability and modernizing water planning and groundwater management. Make Government More Accountable and Transparent so Texans can clearly see how tax dollars are spent and what results they deliver. Combat the Drug Cartels and Deport Dangerous Criminal Aliens by using every lawful tool to establish real operational control of the border. Make Texas the National Leader in Education and Student Success through parent empowerment, education savings accounts, charter school growth, and teacher preparation reform. Protect Children Online by shielding minors from predatory platforms, addictive algorithms, and harmful AI tools. Support Strong Family Formation by restoring the family as the foundational unit of a healthy society. Take Back Our Cities by strengthening law and order, supporting local law enforcement, and establishing regional district courts for serious crimes. Protect Texas Elections and Ensure Enforcement of Election Violations by setting uniform statewide standards and ensuring consistent enforcement of election laws. Texas has taken important steps to lead the nation on many fronts, including education, economic opportunity, and public safety. There is still more to be accomplished to ensure our state remains the best place in the country to live, work, and raise a family. The Liberty Action Agenda Top 10 lays out clear priorities to keep Texas Texan. In subsequent announcements, each TPPF campaign will release its individual list of specific policy reforms. The full TPPF LAA consists of more than 70 items.

Today, our Government Reform and Oversight Coalition officially launched with a clear mission: to combat the forces that are driving runaway local spending, undermining property tax relief, and protecting an unaccountable education cartel that profits at taxpayers’ expense.

"The borrower is slave to the lender." - Ben Franklin Sadly for Texans, local governments have enslaved their citizens with over half a trillion in debt. That's right. Over $500,000,000,000. It's time to end this madness.
