Meet Gary. Gary is about to be Queensland’s newest home owner, purchasing his family home on Palm Island under our Rent-to-Buy program.
Gary has long aspired to home ownership but it has never been possible, until now under our program.
For Gary, this is more than just buying a house, it’s about creating security for his family, building generational opportunity and leaving a legacy for those who will come after him.
This week as we mark the 50th year of NAIDOC Week, the first Rent-to-Buy applications were completed on Palm Island by @SamOConnorMP and Mayor Alf Lacey, and with @adambailliemp.
We promised we’d focus on delivering practical support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders in health, education, clean water and the opportunity for home ownership.
Our Rent-to-Buy program on Palm Island is just one of the ways we’re delivering that practical support, just as we promised.

We’re pushing ahead with generational public transport in one of our State’s fastest growing regions.
Today we can announce the Gold Coast Light Rail will be extended north to Harbour Town in Biggera Waters, to connect with the Gold Coast University Hospital, with new stations to better connect the Gold Coast.
We’re also delivering The Surfer - a metro‑style vehicle from Robina, via Varsity Lakes, Burleigh Heads and Gold Coast Airport, to Coolangatta, that will be fast, frequent, and reliable.
It’s part of our Gold Coast Transport Plan, helping you get home sooner and safer.
We promised to deliver generational infrastructure across Queensland, and that’s exactly what we’re doing. – at Gold Coast, Queensland

Here in Queensland we’ve already made Jack’s Law permanent - giving our frontline police the power to wand and detect knives.
Jack’s Law is already making a difference - and not only are other States now looking to Queensland, but countries like the UK are too.
It’s all about restoring safety where you live and doing what we promised.

They’re part of our QBuild Disaster Response Crew helping locals get back on their feet after the recent weather event.
With roads still flooded, the only way in was by chopper - but they’re determined to get the job done and so are we.
We’ll be there every step of the way as Western Queensland recovers from these floods.
