You can be all for the culture but if your business no longer exists, you can't do anything for the culture.
Got to find a model that works to pay you and your bills.
Is anyone in disagreement that basketball in the UK needs *radical* change?
Remember that, for whatever the future version of the British basketball federation looks like.
Any strategy to grow the sport that doesn't act as a facilitator and enabler for clubs will fail.
The goal should be to create an environment that clubs can thrive.
Missed out the part that I said Crystal Palace desperately needs the refurb - so don't want this to read as though I'm not in support of the closure.
But of course, does raise the issue of how few options there are in London. Crazy for a global city.

You can still have nation-specific work based on local needs. But that doesnโt prevent a singular overall body that handles commercial, strategy, pathway creation and all back office, removing all the needless duplication while still allowing each nation to justify SC funding
Perhaps.
But maybe if the entire sport wasn't reliant on government hand outs and there was an attempt to properly commercialise the game, we could do what is in the best interest of the sport instead of bending over backwards to appease funders.

Is it that simple though? Sport Scotland do not show ice-hockey as a recognised Scottish national governing body that they directly invested/ funded.
However NGB BasketballScotland is funded by them. Apples and Oranges?

There are people in the home country associations that will tell you the merging into a single unified British basketball governing body is impossible due to devolution.
You can send them this and tell them they are lying.
๐ HISTORIC MERGER: UK ICE HOCKEY IS TOGETHER AS ONE

Iโve seen dozens of โinvited to exposure campโ posts all across socialsโฆ please tell me the kids didnโt need to pay to go to these?
If so, thatโs a thoroughly exploitative way of raising money off of the hopes of kids to make GB that likely never stood a chance
No, I am no longer a part of it. Mark Clark and I resigned from the HCA-led process regarding the future of a British basketball federation a month ago due to being unaligned on the direction of travel.

Sam as you're part of the Wider Consultation Group that's liaising with the new management structure supporting the GB Basketball programmes, can we assume that you weren't consulted on this? Or were you just ignored? Both are bad.

I thought โexposureโ camps were a new low, but advertising a ยฃ65k+ pa job, that someone is currently doing voluntarily to ensure there is a team on the floor in the next window - without speaking to them first - is almost as low as you can get.
GB Basketball is seeking a General Manager (Performance) to provide overall strategic leadership to the senior and junior national teams teams, with particular focus on 3x3 LA28 OIympic qualification.

PlayZones are the exact opposite of everything a basketball player would want.
And I'd argue are the opposite of what most kids would want - no-one wants locked, bookable spaces in public parks, let alone ones that are MUGAs.
Awful initiative & huge waste of money.
Replying to @markbritball @SamNeter
One of their funded programmes (PlayZones) is multi-use games areas which can include tarmac surfacing and basketball markings and hoops/backboards (also netball, cricket, hockey with different surfaces)
