Ban the Banned: Stop the Government from Using Banned Pseudoscience on Workers - Sign the Petition! c.org/62pvtxPnt7 via @Change
"Psychologists and experts in deception have made it clear. The lie detector test cannot be improved with better signal. The signal itself is unreliable."

Do Lie Detectors Actually Work?
Despite being commonly known as lie detectors, polygraphs actually measure stress, using blood pressure, heart rate, respiration, sweat, and other indicators. Because lying is stressful for many people, the idea is that a polygraph, used in conjunction with a series of specific types of questions, can help determine if the subject is being truthful or not. While this can work, polygraphs have proven to be wrong before, which is why several U.S. states have banned their results as evidence in legal proceedings.

Civilian and military courts don't consider polygraph tests accurate enough to admit as evidence, but the Pentagon is still spending $30 million to develop AI-assisted lie detectors.

The polygraph industry is the ultimate grift. Polygraph operators profit by selling junk science as truth, weaponizing an innocent person's natural anxiety against them. It’s not a "lie detector"—it’s a psychological coercion tool masquerading as objective science.

Polygraph machines are junk, bullshit "science." ANYONE who cheers for them is an unread, uninformed moron. Every single one. (The loudest are the ones who know its just a frame.)
Polygraphs detect physiological stress, not lies themselves. Skilled or pathological liars can control responses and pass, as seen with past cases like Aldrich Ames. Background verification of degrees and service records also failed here, which is the larger process breakdown.
No!

For over a century, popular culture—via movies, crime television shows, and news media—has framed the polygraph as a foolproof truth machine. This initial cultural anchor is so strong that subsequent scientific debunking fails to displace it.

How to beat a polygraph is well-documented, despite the U.S. government's best efforts to keep it a secret.

Yes, correlation. That’s the word you were missing. 😂 Deception can produce physiological arousal. So can fear, anxiety, embarrassment, anger, trauma, or being falsely accused. The machine measures the response, not its cause. You’ve finally described a polygraph correctly.
Why Congress banned "lie detectors" for corporate America—but exempted the federal government.
The "sovereign exempting itself" argument is a core critique regarding the hypocrisy of Congress banning polygraph testing in corporate America while exempting government agencies.

In 1988, Congress banned private employers from using polygraphs because of its negative effects on society.
So why did they exempt the government from the law?

It's important to understand that polygraph "testing" is a thoroughly discredited pseudoscience. Polygraph chart readings have zero evidentiary value and should not be relied upon to either implicate or exculpate anyone.

The Pentagon wants $30 million to build an AI lie detector — no polygraph wires, just cameras and sensors reading your body.
The problem: no scientific study has ever found a universal deception marker.
The government wants to decide if you're lying based on technology the science doesn't support.
