If Putin stops fighting, the war ends. If Zelensky stops fighting then his country will be occupied, leaders murdered, language banned, businesses stolen, children kidnapped. That's what happens in Russian-occupied Ukraine.

Just leaving this for all the leakers who said the furin cleavage site could have never gotten into SARS-CoV-2 spike unless a “gain of function” virologist put it there.
Turns out nature is still the ultimate GOF virologist

A “new left” is forming in the United States, and it has very little in common with the traditional left. Its defining issue is foreign policy: hostility toward Israel and Ukraine, sympathy for Russia and Iran, and, among some, increasingly favorable views of China.
This group is a bizarre horseshoe coalition: It includes self-described communists like Jackson Hinkle, conspiracy theorists like Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens on the populist right, traitor Michael Flynn from the MAGA world, Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian from The Young Turks, and the anti-Western ecosystem around The Grayzone.
Politicians like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Thomas Massie increasingly overlap with this coalition on Ukraine, Israel and American foreign policy.
These people disagree on plenty of domestic issues. But when it comes to geopolitics, they increasingly end up in the same place: Ukraine is the enemy. Israel is the enemy. NATO is the enemy. Western institutions are corrupt. Russia's aggression is explained away or ignored. Iran is treated as a victim. And authoritarian regimes are often given far more sympathy than America's democratic allies.
Some of them are now turning against Trump because he attacked Iran and failed to give Russia the victory in Ukraine they expected.
This movement shouldn't be dismissed as a collection of internet weirdos. MAGA was once an online grassroots movement too, but it eventually took over the Republican Party.
Now there is a political vacuum on the other side. The Democrats are weak, unpopular and struggling to define what they stand for, and yhis “new left” wants to fill that vacuum.
Andrew Bridgen has lost his libel case against Matt Hancock. Bridgen took the former Health Secretary to court for accusing him in 2023 of spreading "antisemitic, anti-vax conspiracy theories".
The judges agreed this was an honest opinion for him to hold.

Trump appointed Fauci.
Trump locked down the country.
Trump spearheaded the vaccine.
Trump was President while ~400K died.
So, naturally, in the mind of MAGA, all of this is Fauci's fault.

So many ‘heterodox’ pundits revealing themselves to be scientifically illiterate & incredibly lazy. Years & years after the pandemic yet they are all still just basing their takes on Covid origins on Twitter discourse and punditry. Lazy parroting presented as brave freethinking.

Ryan Grim quoting Zeynep who is in turn quoting Alina Chan. Lab leak discourse is a Jenga tower of pundits self citing lab leak discourse on Twitter & ignoring the scientific literature except to claim it discredited by a Twitter thread/some magazine editorial.
This is key. Whether we know for certain whether the lab was Covid’s origin, it is 100% the case that an active cover up was and is underway by people who funded the lab, did work there, and were concerned the lab was the source. Of that there is zero doubt, and it’s criminal behavior of the highest sort, given the stakes.

Hey guys, pssst, it isn’t actually unpopular to endorse lab leak. It’s been the popular take in mainstream AND alternative media for a long time now. ‘Heterodox’ pundits repeat it as catechism. It’s also popular amongst the public & super popular in MAGA & anti-vaxx communities.

There have been a bunch of investigations and lots of papers published on the topic and none of these pundits care or have bothered to read them. The inexplicable lack of curiosity is coming from inside the house. All they care about is their takes.
Michael is right, the weirdest thing about people who are energetically "natural origin" is they are inexplicably incurious about *how* this happened
Let's say we *knew* the Covid virus was from a cross-over infection from an animal. We should *definitely* figure out which animal it was. To have a virus like this develop in an animal reservoir to such a potency and transmissibility among humans is a unacceptably high and continual risk.
We should be on a fire drill tracking the path this virus took from some bats in a cave in Yunnan in 2012 to Wuhan in 2020. This should occupy a great deal of our time and energy.
But it hasn't. Why? Because trying to trace that path led to an immediate dead end. China tested tens of thousands of animals across hundreds of species and found nothing. No virus, no antibodies, nothing. It looks like Covid appeared out of thin air. Which it couldn't have done because we KNOW that it came from an animal somewhere.
The scientific response to this cannot be "(shrug) guess we'll never know". It should be "this is the biggest and most important scientific mystery of our time and we are eager to unravel it"
But they aren't eager to unravel it. They have shown almost no interest in solving this mystery. Why?
The answer I suspect is because they already suspect that they know the answer to the mystery. It's no fun to chase down a fake mystery. They're just not allowed to admit they know it.

Elon Musk’s visible shock when confronted with the fact that London is safer than American cities exposes a massive gap between social media algorithms and statistical reality.
Despite the endless stream of online panic about ”dangerous” European capitals, the numbers don’t lie: London is objectively safer than almost every city in the United States.
The idea that London is a crime-ridden wasteland is a triumph of online disinformation, allowed to spread unchecked on platforms like X because it fits a specific political narrative.
The actual data shows that London's homicide rate sits at roughly 1.1 per 100,000 people. To put that in perspective, 100 out of the 100 largest US cities (!!!) have higher homicide rates than London, and 49 out of 50 US states are more dangerous on this metric. London achieves this safety record despite being a massive, diverse global hub of nine million residents.
Critics often point to property crime or phone snatching to argue that London is worse, but using petty crime to ignore murder statistics is fundamentally flawed. Criminologists rely heavily on homicide rates because non-fatal crime statistics are notoriously harder to compare and more unreliable. Theft, sexual violence, and minor assault reporting rates fluctuate wildly depending on how much citizens trust local police or whether they need a police report for an insurance claim. Forms of non-lethal violence also vary based on legislation: you will naturally see more stabbings in a country with fewer guns, and more gun violence in a country with more guns.
Homicide, by contrast, is an absolute and objective metric. It measures the ultimate form of violence, correlates strongly with overall severe crime, and leaves almost no room for underreporting. It counts all forms of lethal violence in an unhackable way. It is impossible to claim your city is safer than London if you have a five times higher homicide rate, even if London scores worse on theft.
London has plenty of room for improvement, but American commentators living under drastically higher murder rates should clean up their own backyard before preaching to others

3. “Pharma is hiding this one trick.”
4. “Science confirms it.”
5. “I look like your idea of a healthy person!”
6. “The East…”

Increased viral replication is not enhanced transmissibility and Fauci is not the one who is lying here.
Also what does Fauci have to do with an unfunded DARPA proposal? That’s Hegseth’s department
Fauci repeatedly testified before Congress that the NIH did not fund gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. However, NIH documents and grant records revealed that EcoHealth Alliance, funded by NIH, did support research that enhanced the transmissibility of bat coronaviruses, which meets the NIH’s own definition of gain-of-function.
