I’ve been saying this all along. This is what actually happened.
Ignore all the noise about Apple canceling Vision. Apple didn’t give up on headsets.
Meta VR Glasses and Pico Space Pro will likely push Apple to make its decision faster.
I have to say this again.
Here is what actually happened.
Apple did pause the Vision Air project last year, but not because it gave up on headsets. Internally, Apple concluded that Vision Air was still not light or thin enough. So the company chose a more aggressive path instead.
That new project is roughly similar in direction to Meta’s Phoenix, a much lighter and thinner headset. It is being developed by a separate, newer team inside Apple.
Apple will probably run another internal review toward the end of this year, comparing Vision Air with this newer, more aggressive direction, before making a final decision on which product to move forward with.

Meta VR Glasses is a whole new hardware category.
The move from headset to glasses is reminding me of iPod -> iPhone.
I have a feeling the VR glasses form-factor are going to be the driver behind mass adoption.
Anyone see a Meta Hologram sitting down?
I’m so curious as to what the courtside experience with friends will be like

I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I learned a lot when I started the Google Glass project. A key insight was how important human eye contact is.
Removing the ability to see someone's eyes when talking with them negatively changed the entire dynamic.
So, while I am impressed with Meta's new glasses, they continue the huge error (imho) of blocking eye-to-eye contact.
I don't think any glasses that are dark / block you from seeing another person's eyes will have mainstream, broadly appealing success.
Good to hear there is an optional strap coming for more dynamic motion on the Meta VR glasses
Burpees here we come
“Nerd helmet” 😂😂😂
Meta has new audio-only Ray-Ban glasses, VR glasses that no longer look like a nerd helmet and a new voice-and-video mode for its Muse AI agent. I sat down with @finkd to talk about it all. And yes, we got into trust, privacy and that tiny matter of whether AI might kill us...

NEW: Meta debuts $1,299 VR Glasses at 100 grams by offloading the battery and compute to an external pack. In a demo, it's pretty close to the Apple Vision Pro at less than half the price and 1/6th the weight. They are incredible. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
Turns out it’s not

I got this pin in the mail yesteday. A gift from the folks at FitXR to acknowledge my nearly 2 years of continuous completion of their well-crafted excersise programs and wondrous environments.
A true Space Odyssey.
Help…
I watched too many AI memes of this song that it got stuck in my head
So I added it to my Spotify
Then it played in the car with the kids
So I had to show them the memes
And now I have to recreate it with them in it
So now, I need the help with the workflow
When people think metaverse, they often think janky cartoon avatars and bulky headsets
Then think… flop
They probably won’t consider watching sport in a visor with digital versions of their buddies as the same thing
So… I guess in their minds it always will be a flop
Simple...
Because the vast majority of the population don't want to wear a headset
If a headset looks like glasses, is it still a headset?
The first visuals of Meta's Project Phoenix headset have been found in Horizon OS firmware, revealing a slim design with a tether for the compute puck.

Love this. I also want my photos / memories to live in a physical book as well as on my phone
Thinking about building something that produces a similar output but also pulls from both mine and my wife’s iPhoto
@daniela0spector who did you print it with?
