In Ether 1-5 we watched Moriancumer (that name is better attested than "Mahonri") grapple with what it means to pray and want and question and grow. We follow Moriancumer (and by extension all of us) as he encounters problems (confounded language, an exodus that merges Noah and
for witnessing panoramic visions, and the language that was supposedly for keeping Jaredite society intact but is actually for keeping sacred texts impregnable to the trespasses of time. At the end there is that image -- of a wary, warty human trying their best and God reaching

My youngest spoke at Stake Conference tonight. A lovely sermon that cited Madonna, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Alien Sex Fiend, and Jesus (not listed in order of importance). Deeply faithful and thoughtful.

We ended up exploring the nature of Scripture: so much fascinating stuff going on in 3 Ne 20–26. Sort of mind-boggling how interesting and compelling it all is. Just a few of the ways we might understand Scripture include

· A shared canon
· Eavesdropping on conversations with God
· God’s voice caught in amber
· A vessel for God’s voice/a place to meet the Spirit
· The Comforter that remains when Christ is absent (letters from a dead beloved)
· A tune that we sing again and again

Mark is wonderful. Seriously, a wonderful human being and a fantastic surgeon, thinker, etc. deseret.com/education/2024/1…
