Every single person retweeting this or agreeing is a person who views protest merely as an act to performatively do against Hitler and not a thing to change policy. Protest Trump who won't change policy? Good. He's Hitler. Protest Mamdani? What? You think he's Hitler? Children.

why is mamdani the only mayor in decades who hasn’t appointed his own police commissioner and why has mamdani retained tisch in particular

On a personal level, I like @ZohranKMamdani and I think his longstanding support for Palestine is sincere (unlike say @aoc). But politicians cannot be judged on intentions and feelings, only by policies and actions. This is a sensible and factual analysis with clear and moderate demands that New Yorkers have every right to make and are well within @NYCMayor’s power. If people aren’t out there protesting and making noise none of it will happen. We just can’t be satisfied with gestures and half measures in year four of this genocide. If you don’t want to go out and demand more that’s your right. But at least don’t attack those willing to do the hard work.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani's office rejected calls from congressional nominee Darializa Avila Chevalier for NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch to step down. "Jessica Tisch is the Police Commissioner and there are no plans to change that," a City Hall spokesperson told Politico.
Yesterday, an ICE agent opened fire in Marble Hill. They shot a member of our community in the neck while he was in his car. His five-year-old kid was in a child seat in the back of the car when ICE agents fired at least 7 rounds into it. This was in the middle of the afternoon, with children walking home from school and people heading home from work. Federal agents put every one of them in danger.
When I was in Marble Hill last night I saw NYPD officers rapidly escalating violence. As I was trying to de-escalate, I was shoved to the ground by an officer. I witnessed unmarked law enforcement cars hitting protestors as NYPD officers pushed people out of its path. And instead of condemning ICE’s violence, Police Commissioner Tisch attempted to justify the shooting by reading off our neighbor’s past interactions with police.
The NYPD spent more time protecting a militia that just shot someone than protecting New Yorkers. Last night, the NYPD and Commissioner Tisch violated the spirit, if not the letter, of our sanctuary city policies and fueled the Trump Administration’s attempt to demonize our communities. The NYPD’s Strategic Response Group must be disbanded as quickly as possible, and Commissioner Tisch must step down.
In this district, there are mothers who are afraid to send their kids to school, workers who are afraid to show up for their shifts, and people who won’t call for help anymore because they can’t be sure who will come. That’s what it means to have a violent militia operating in your community. You don’t feel safe walking down your own street.
For decades, we’ve been told ICE can be fixed with more oversight, better training, or reform. But you can’t reform an agency whose purpose is to terrorize immigrant families. You can’t train cruelty out of a system built to enact cruelty. ICE must be abolished.
This moment demands that everyone step up. Elected officials at every level need to stop hedging and say it plainly: Abolish ICE now. Our city must enforce every sanctuary protection we have and city officials must ensure this cannot happen again.

We call on the mayor to:
1. Shut down all illegal sales of stolen Palestinian land in New York City
2. Use every means available to him to prevent military cargo shipments to Israel from JFK airport
3. Dismantle NYPD's Strategic Response Group and fire Jessica
Tisch
Replying to @JadeAtomik
Do it now, before some of our core members have a slight ideological disagreement that causes them to splinter off into several smaller groups, each with an increasingly narrow accepted worldview that appeals to 0.1% of the population.

🇺🇸🇮🇱 Mamdani in 2023 said the NYPD is “laced with the IDF”
Now in 2026 he sics that exact same corrupted police force on his own allies

Mamdani’s complicity in the genocide is expressed in his political capital being used to:
1. Support and campaign for pro-AIPAC politicians Hakeem Jeffries aka AIPAC Shakur and Brad Lander - Elbit systems investor.
2. Preserve the NYPD-IDF integration via (first & foremost) his retaining of zionist Jessica Tisch as police captain.
3. Disavow Palestinian liberation rhetoric while concurrently embracing Zionist rhetoric and framing, i.e. “the rise of antisemitism”.
4. Pledge $26 million to “combat antisemitism” which ultimately the NYPD and other orgs will use to censor pro-Palestine speech and activism.
5. Provide legal cover for NYC Jewish synagogues to sell off more Palestinian land, which is a violation of int’l law. On top of that, he arrested the protesters.
6. Renege on his initial campaign promise to arrest Netanyahu if he visited NYC, only to arrest Palestinian activists protesting the war criminal’s visit.
7. Quote with reverence the very book which gives Israel its ideological framework and motive for its genocide: the Talmud.
This is but a brief list to prove that Mamdani, while not physically holding the gun to Palestinian children (which is how Medhi Hasan attempts to obfuscate the valid criticism levied against Mamdani) is now a zionist functionary and accessory to the war crimes which continue in perpetuity in our name and with our money.
And what have you to say, Mehdi? Will you now engage in apologetics and minimize the mayor’s influence on US politics?

It’s funny to me that the Savvy Politics Understand line right now is “do not, under any circumstances, apply political pressure on the one guy it might work on”

“Don’t talk about the mayor like that, he’s my emotional support mayor, and actually, I could make things happen much quicker than these wrecker protestors, because of my cool wit and my easy charm and my panache for dialogue and persuasion.”—most everyone on this website.

thank you to @NerdeenKiswani and @WOLPalestine for holding the line and demanding accountability. we must demand more from our organizations and electeds in order to end the genocide and create a more just world

This is 100% correct. I say this all the time, including about politicians I support. If we don’t hold them accountable and just sweep aside when they’re not fulfilling their commitments then they literally have no incentive to.
Genuinely not as disappointed in Mamdani as I am at all those who refuse to hold elected officials feet to the fire.
He has absolutely no incentive to deliver on the demands of the Palestine movement if we don’t relentlessly make those demands. Meanwhile, Zionist organizations are doing exactly that, applying pressure and getting more and more of what they want, while people who claim to be on the left or support Palestine tell us our strategy should be to shut up.
It’s absurd. You see that political pressure works. You see Zionist organizations using it to advance their interests. Yet somehow when Palestinians do that, in the context of a genocide no less, we’re accused of doing AIPAC’s job for them.
There is nothing Zionist organizations would like more than for the Palestine liberation movement to silence ourselves while politicians endlessly cater to their demands.
But what infuriates me even more is being lectured by Americans whose tax dollars are funding the weapons slaughtering my people. People who not only refuse to hold their own politicians accountable or do more to stop the genocide, but have the audacity to tell Palestinians to shut up about it.
You don’t get to sit comfortably in the country financing the slaughter of our people, refuse to hold your own politicians accountable, and then lecture us about how we’re allowed to resist it.

idk what ppl are expecting from protestors, incl likely some who have lost family to israel, who are carrying grief and outrage over the most evil shit on earth. they simply do not owe politicians decorum and deference and all the resentment toward them is absolutely backwards!!
Sam Beckett retweeted
Before you post, you should really ask yourself the question, do I really disagree in principle with the protest, agitation, or aims of people mobilizing, or am I just upset that politics isn't more orderly and now I have to pay attention to something I could have ignored?

If you’re a supporter of Zohran you should be kissing the feet of these protestors. Zohran probably thanks his lucky stars there’s vocal critics who think he’s insufficiently anti-zionist because it proves his moderate bonafides to the general populace. For people obsessed with a “pragmatic political theory of change” so many of you are bad at politicking.
