A bad thing that has happened recently is conflating “asking Dems as a party to give in on issue X Y or Z” with “let a handful of candidates take positions farther to the right on issue XYZ so that Dems can win in red states again.” There’s really no hope in the Senate unless we do the latter, but doing the latter doesn’t mean doing the former.
