Today, as we celebrate Columbus Day, we reflect on the historic voyage of Christopher Columbus and the role faith played in shaping his journey.
Guided by his Christian beliefs and a desire to carry the message of Christ to distant lands, Columbus embarked on a voyage in 1492 that would forever change the course of world history. More than five centuries later, his journey reminds us of the courage required to step into the unknown and the importance of seeking God's guidance in all that we do.
As we remember this chapter of history, may we all be encouraged to walk boldly in faith, trusting that God can direct our paths even when the destination is uncertain.

Fifty years ago, on September 30, 1976, Congress drew a moral line. It enacted the first Hyde Amendment, providing that federal Medicaid funds generally could not be used to pay for abortions. Congress has renewed that protection in annual appropriations ever since.
