A fight is under way to allow Saint-Flour Cathedral, in the Auvergne, central France, to continue having premium hams dry as they hang from beams in its 1000-metre-high tower. churchtimes.co.uk/articles/2…

Anyone whose response to riots and thuggery is to talk about "understandable anger of ordinary people" should be asked if burning down a Citizens Advice office, which is there to help ordinary people, is understandable.
The place set alight last night was Citizens Advice, Sunderland. Its manager this morning told me they’re devastated and now trying to figure out how to help the people they were supposed to see #sunderland

If you feel there should be more calming content here as a gentle counterpoint to wrangling, trolling & use of this website to stir up hatred & if you think your followers might like to dial down their stress hormone a little, then maybe give my photo a RT.👆🌿

Huge queue this am @britishmuseum (yes I had forgotten half-term) but a pre-booked ticket for the excellent Legion exhibition got me straight in. Nice to see the Vindolanda tablets included. Huge queue for ladies loos as well. Better provision required.

Please retweet, are any MPs in the UK working to end the national pet crisis? Most council pounds in the UK don't allow the public to adopt. They keep all dogs for just 7 days, then, regardless of breed, age, health, they can put them to sleep if there are no rescue shelter spaces available. All rescue shelters are full or overwhelmed. In the last week I have seen, pregnant dogs, Dachshund and Spaniel puppies, all breeds, in council pounds. The tragic XL Bully crisis has taken the spotlight in the news, but this pet crisis is affecting hundreds of thousands of dogs of all breeds and other animals while @RishiSunak @Conservatives have done nothing to end the suffering and pointless death of thousands. Are any MPs in the UK doing anything about the horrific pet crisis ? 3.4 million pets abandoned in the UK in just 12 months and the situation is much worse since this report. vettimes.co.uk/news/concern-… @UKLabour @AngelaRayner @Keir_Starmer @michaelgove @SuellaBraverman @BBCNews @itvnews @SkyNews @Channel4News @channel5_tv @BBCPanorama @GMB @susannareid100 @lorraine @BBCBreakfast @BritishVets @DefraGovUK @DrBrianMay @PeterEgan6 @domdyer70 @Nightowl400 @MissingPetsGB @gsrescueelite @LurcherSOS @AmeliaHarperTV @PennyMordaunt @jessphillips @zarahsultana @ABridgen @darrenpjones @AndrewRTDavies @SeneddWales @SDoughtyMP @NickTorfaen @KevinBrennanMP @APDAWG1 #dogs #AdoptDontShop Dog Below, Sunday 7 January, in a council pound Surrey England. This pound will not allow the public to adopt and give the dogs that are taken there no exposure.

2 out of every 3 frontline NHS staff don’t have access to a staff room. We think it’s completely unacceptable for staff to work such long shifts, on their feet, without appropriate rest facilities. Please RT if you agree and encourage @SteveBarclay to address it

Please, please can we stop calling manuscripts ‘dusty’ and ‘hidden’ in archives. Archivists ensure that they’re not one or the other, which is how we historians get to see them in the first place. It’s a lazy and inaccurate cliché that also manages to be insulting.
