When I saw that my book was on the list of "Most Life- Changing Nonfiction Books" by BuzzFeed, I felt emotional. For years, I was told NOT to write this book. But I stuck to my principles. This work has been bigger than I could have imagined.
Breaking: From 2018-2022—the years surrounding the recent racial justice uprising—only 20% of papers published in the American Sociological Review were by scholars of color. Only 2% were by Black authors. Most of the published articles made no mention of race or racial justice.
