The sad gap between academic & community oncology can be bridged by mutual understanding
* our field requires both breadth & depth
* most cancer care should be delivered close to home (but sub-specialized treatment at tertiary & quaternary centers still has a time & place)
* the majority of us strive to deliver the standard of care while the researchers (not mutually exclusive with clinicians) push us forward
* just as pressure is a privilege, we all signed up for lifelong learning as the price of progress is the need to keep up with an ever-changing landscape (put another way: if I practiced the way I was trained ~15 years ago it would be malpractice by now)
* patients want & need us to collaborate
* we are truly better together :)

It is extremely rare to come across a player like @LaneJohnson65. Extremely rare
In the spring of 2013, I found myself on a field in East Texas working out a young Lane Johnson. I believe he was 22 years old
All these years later, to say I am proud of the career you built and the man you became would be an understatement. A Hall of Fame career. It’s been a privilege and honor to have coached you.
I am so proud of you, Lane

Lane Johnson played 11,917 snaps in his 14 year career, he allowed only 295 pressures (2.4%) and allowed just 33 sacks (0.02%). We’ll never see another like him.

The demonstration of optogenetics as a technology was, in Boyden's telling, a joint side project and a co-invention to which no lab chief could lay a direct claim.
The reason to emphasize this aspect of the story was to seek equal credit...and a share of a Nobel.

ADCs don’t spare healthy tissue. It doesn’t matter how fancy the design is and how selective the target is. Non-specific target-independent ADC uptake in normal tissue is a common mechanism of disposition.
