11 October 2026 #NationalComingOutDay My Coming Out Day(s): (1) 22 April 1989 -14 years-old connecting the dots of my childhood feeling of “difference” with my recognition of “attraction” during puberty (🙏🏾 Channel Four, Derek Jarman, Sebastiane); (2) 31 May 1996 - coming out to my mother - could no longer lead a double-life; (3) Autumn 1996, - to the “outside world” - on TV - Esther - “Secrets and Lies”; (4) 14 Feb 1998/Summer/Autumn 1998 - to my Inn/pupillage applications/interviews; (4) December 1999 - as a pupil in Chambers, on the dance floor of the Groucho Club at the Christmas Party (I do despise stereotypes, really, I do … 🕺🏾); and (5) Almost every day … I have the freedom to come out, whilst my LGBTIQ+ Refugee clients are faced with a real risk of torture, including in some cases so-called “curative” rape, or murder. This is why today is so important, reminding me what I take for granted, enabling and empowering me to live “freely and openly”, must apply to everyone.

#ChosenFamily As a #LegalAidLawyer you inevitably form strong friendships with others who share your values and beliefs - access to justice, rule of law, social justice etc.. generally being a decent human-being. Over the past decade @FionaBawdon has been instrumental in her support, care and affection in getting to me to a place where I am genuinely “living my dream”. She once wrote about me “meshing the personal, with the professional” - it is important to highlight the way this can be lived as a positive choice, enhancing your value to yourself, and the world around us. The Last Anniversary … (6 October) “So what were your first impressions when you saw me on the dance floor in Heaven?” 25 years ago today I met my Soulmate. Today would have also been Mark’s 63rd Birthday. Yes, a 27 years ago-old me did utter an introduction relating to his Birthday … #joy In reaching this milestone -I have decided that this is the last anniversary I feel I need to share. I wish he was physically here to share the #joy I now feel having introduced “the boys” to my life, and moved Chambers. I know he would have shared my happiness, and being able to truly feel solid, rather than the emptiness of the previous 2.5 years. I have even raised with my DEI officer - the inclusion of policies to address Bereavement and Grief ..
