זכיתי לייצג את ישראל באירועים בתחום הסביבה במסגרת שבוע רם הדרג של עצרת האו״ם בניו יורק, ולערוך סיור מקצועי באחד ממתקני המיון והמחזור הגדולים בצפון אמריקה, במסגרת מהפכת הפסולת אותה הובלתי יחד עם הצוותים המקצועיים בקדנציה הנוכחית. האתגרים הסביבתיים מחייבים מדיניות ארוכת טווח לצד פתרונות מעשיים: הרחבת השימוש באנרגיות מתחדשות, צמצום הטמנה, קידום מתקנים ותשתיות מתקדמות לטיפול בפסולת והפיכתה למשאב, הפחתת מזהמים, שמירה על משאבי הטבע והיערכות להשפעות שינוי אקלים. אלה בליבת עבודת המשרד להגנת הסביבה ובמרכז השיח הבין־לאומי בניו יורק. המפגש עם מדינות ופתרונות המיושמים בעולם מאפשר לישראל להביא מהידע והניסיון שנצברו בה ולבחון כלים ופתרונות המתאימים לצרכים הישראלים. שיתוף הפעולה הבין־לאומי הוא נדבך חשוב בקידום מדיניות סביבתית מובילה בישראל. האירועים נערכו במסגרת ולצד השבוע הרם דרג של העצרת הכללית של האו״ם, בהשתתפות ראשי מדינות, שרים ונציגים בכירים ממדינות העולם. השתתפנו בדיאלוג רם דרג של נשיאויות ועידות האקלים ובאירוע רם דרג באו״ם בנושא קידום פעולות אקלים ומעבר צודק לכלכלה דלת פליטות (High-level meeting on climate action and the just transition). הגענו לביקור מקצועי ב-Sunset Park Material Recovery Facility, מתקן מתקדם למיון ולטיפול בפסולת בעיר, הנחשב למתקן המיון והטיפול בפסולת הגדול מסוגו בצפון אמריקה, להיכרות עם פתרונות ותשתיות מתקדמות. הביקור התקיים כחלק ממהפכת הפסולת – ׳מזבל לזהב׳ שמוביל המשרד לצמצום ההטמנה, לקידום מתקני טיפול מתקדמים ולהפיכת הפסולת ממטרד למשאב. לקחנו חלק באירוע רם דרג של האו״ם בנושא האיומים מעליית מפלס הים וההיערכות להשלכותיו. במהלך הימים באו״ם קיימנו שיחות עם ראשי מדינות ושרים, וכן פגישות מקצועיות עם שרי הסביבה של הפיליפינים ושל מיקרונזיה וצוותיהם, שעסקו בתחומי עניין משותפים ובהעמקת שיתופי הפעולה הסביבתיים. בשנת 2023 נחתם הסכם לשיתוף פעולה סביבתי בין ישראל לפיליפינים. בהמשך לעניין שהביעו נציגי הפיליפינים ומיקרונזיה בביקור מקצועי בישראל, יגבש המשרד תוכנית ייעודית למשלחת, להעמקת הקשרים בין גורמי המקצוע ולקידום שיתופי פעולה בתחומים הסביבתיים המשותפים. סיום הביקור כלל את נאומו החשוב והמוצלח במיוחד של ראש הממשלה באו״ם, שהציג את האמת ואת גבורת הלוחמים מול העולם כולו.
