🌍 is a blue planet. And as climate impacts grow ever more extreme we must protect water, our most valuable resource.
Today at #COP29 the Baku Dialogue on Water for Climate Action was launched to strengthen water action within the global climate agenda.

Climate finance is not a hand-out.
It’s an investment against the devastation that unchecked climate chaos will inflict on us all.
It’s a downpayment on a safer, more prosperous future for every nation on Earth.

My appeal to negotiators & ministers at the #COP29 climate conference:
Soften hard lines.
Navigate a path through your differences.
Keep your eyes on the bigger picture.
Never forget that the future of humanity is at stake.

I urge all countries at the #COP29 climate conference to step-up, pick-up the pace, and deliver.
The need for #ClimateAction is urgent.
The rewards are great.
And time is short.

We must speed-up the necessary just transition from fossil fuels to renewables.
Renewables deliver clean air, energy security & good jobs. And they are the cheapest source of electricity.
The end of the fossil fuel age is inevitable. Let’s make sure it does not come too late.

I told leaders at #COP29:
All countries must take urgent #ClimateAction.
But the G20 - as the largest emitters with the greatest capacities & resources - must lead.
They must bring their technological know-how together – with developed countries supporting emerging economies.

Climate finance is not charity, it’s an investment.
#ClimateAction is not optional, it’s an imperative.
Both are indispensable to a liveable world for all humanity and a prosperous future for every nation on Earth.

Full operationalization of the FRLD. At COP29 in Baku key documents have been signed. The total pledged funding stands around $720M. Turn pledges to action. The FRLD is ready to turn pledges into real support by 2025. #Somalia is in the frontline. @MoECC_Somalia #LossAndDamage

My message to young people worldwide:
Do not accept that what we have today is inevitable.
Do not accept that you cannot transform things.
To change the world, we need to unite, mobilize, and fight for #OurCommonFuture.

By 2050, floods & droughts could cause $5.6 trillion in losses to the global economy.
With extreme water-related events increasing in frequency, there is an urgent need to #ScaleUpFinance4Water.

Somalia faces a critical environmental challenge: deforestation. Urgent action is needed from the government to address this issue and mitigate its severe impacts, including reduced rainfall, droughts, and food shortages. Protecting our environment is essential for our future.

Climate and environmental pressures worsen livelihood conditions, aggravate scarcity, increase competition over natural resources, heighten the risk for livelihood deterioration, food insecurity, and violent conflict.
