In 2008, CNN aired a segment about a Hannah Poling, a girl who contracted autism as a toddler due to vaccines.
Her father, a neurologist, claimed that the HHS ADMITTED her autism came from vaccines š

"At four months old, Porter Bridges went in for his well-baby checkup and received an array of vaccines. That night he spiked a 105-degree fever and had a two-hour grand mal seizure. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors struggled to stabilize him while his family paced the halls waiting to hear if he was conscious.
Though no one could know it at the time, Porter's hospitalization marked the start of a terrifying and tragic decline in his health and the health of his family. And while the effects of Porter's reaction would take years to fully develop, the cause was never in doubt--Porter's hospital record reads, "Brain injury from pertussis vaccine."
From his mother Dr. Sarah Bridges...
āIn 2001, the government paid a settlement to my son Porter for the brain injuries he suffered from a DPT (diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus) shot that blew his world to bits. He was paid more than $2.7 million for pain and suffering and for lifetime care for his disabilities, which were later diagnosed to include mental retardation and autism.
The settlement came from a special legal system in Washington, D.C., called the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP). Informally known as the vaccine court, it was established by Congress in the 1980s to adjudicate claims of vaccine injury and death, and to protect vaccine makers from liability for their products. When a claim is filed, evaluated and conceded, the fund allots money for the care of the vaccine-injured person. You and I pay for this with a surcharge of 75 cents added to the cost of every shot.
In Porterās case, payments will be made for the rest of his life to cover the ambulance rides, the diapers and the one-on-one supervision he needs to get dressed. They pay for the special van that drives him to a sheltered workshop, where he shreds paper for eight hours a day. Also, for the caregivers who protect him when he gets frustrated and snaps his jaw against a table, trying to crack his teethā.

If weāve learned anything this last week, itās that we need to end the autism spectrum.
Severe autism is nothing like high functioning autism. Itās doing nothing to help by lumping these diagnosis under one umbrella.
Back in the day, high functioning autism was called Aspergerās. We need to get back to that.

š A heartbreaking reality: severe autism engulfs countless individuals in a storm of gut dysbiosis, neuroinflammation, sensory overload, and relentless self-injurious behaviorsāslamming heads into walls, clawing at their own skin, physically assaulting caregivers, and living without speech or the ability to communicate basic needs.
Many endure crippling anxiety, uncontrollable meltdowns, and profound developmental delays, leaving them trapped in a world of tics, stims, and isolation, often unable to leave their homes.
This community has been erased for decades, their existence buried until advocates like Secretary Kennedy forced the world to see them.
But the dangers are unrelenting: autistic children are 160 times more likely to drown; 49% attempt to elope after age 4, with 53% missing long enough to ignite panic. Elopement is a death sentence for too many, with drowning a leading cause of death.
Parents of these children face an unimaginable burden, aging under the weight of round-the-clock care for an adult who may never live independently.
They battle exhaustion, fear, and financial ruin, changing diapers, managing violent outbursts, and scouring for rare moments of connection with their child.
As they grow older, their bodies weaken, but the demands donātālifting a grown adult, restraining them during meltdowns, or chasing them during elopement attempts.
The divorce rate for these parents is staggering, with studies estimating up to 80% of marriages collapsing under the strain of raising a child with severe autism. Siblings often grow up in the shadows, their needs sidelined by the constant crisis.
Yet, these families are left to fend for themselves, with no roadmap for when their child ages out of programs at 21 or 25, and support systems evaporate.
What happens when these parents, part of the first āwaveā of this crisis, die? Their adult children, often cognitively and functionally dependent, face a voidāno services, no specialized facilities, just the cold reality of institutions ill-equipped for their needs.
This subset of the autism community, more than any other, needs urgent support. They deserve to be seen, not silenced by parents of high-functioning autistic children who, by sheer luck, face fewer challenges.
Itās a bizarre flex for those parents to dismiss this group, to claim their struggles donāt deserve visibility or representation just because their own child navigates the world more easily.
Denying the reality of severe autism doesnāt erase itāit buries those who need help most.
This community isnāt asking for pity; theyāre demanding a lifelineāfunding for specialized care, housing for adults with profound needs, and training for caregivers who understand their unique challenges.
They need society to stop averting its eyes and start building solutions.
The silence from those who could amplify their voices, especially within the autism community, is a betrayal.

Senator @SenWarren owes a deep apology to families and children with severe autism. Best place to learn about this devastating epidemic is to read the many comments and quote reposts to her extremely insensitive post. Please do.

I wish those with mild autism wouldnāt immediately respond with anger every time someone dares to talk about the environmental triggers behind severe autism.
If youāre verbal, independent, and able to articulate your thoughts online, youāre not the child weāre talking about. Youāre not the one who is nonverbal, in diapers at age ten, or engaging in self-injurious behavior with no way to express why.
We can love every child as they are, and still be courageous enough to search for answers. Both can be true.

Autism is literally one of the worst things you can have as a human, especially if itās severe like my brother. Morons

I did not want to bring my brother into the light, but I felt I had to since people were acting like severe autism didnāt exist. People have to know and hear and see what reality is for low functioning, low motor skills, and nonverbal autists

Let me be blunt. My 2 grown autistic kids canāt add 1+1. Canāt brush their teeth. Canāt talk. Canāt tie their shoes. Canāt read. Canāt do 99% of the things a typical preschooler can do.
So congratulations to the autism self-advocates who are cognitively intact.

Whatever happens now, there is a beautiful poetic justice with the ascendence of @DrJBhattacharya to the position of the man at NIH who called him a "fringe epidemiologist" and triggered a grotesque tech and academic boycott of his ideas. Let the new era begin!
