I dont see a reason why cant have a sensible balance of both. That's what Frontiers and Shadow Gens more or less already were. Here is a breakdown: Games where the story was conceptualised AND written by ST before localisation: - Colors - Generations - Forces Games where the story AND script was primarily written by SoA before being localised for Japan: - Lost World (Pontacc) - Shadow Gens (Flynn) Games where the story was primarily made by ST with some feedback and tweaks from Flynn, then written and localised to Japanese: - Frontiers My observation here, being completely blunt, is that for the entire duration of the Meta era we were getting both bad SoA translations of already-bad SoJ/ST stories. But conversely, both the SoA and SoJ writers have stepped up with Kishimoto, Ootsu and Flynn between Frontiers and Shadow Generations. There has been a pretty undeniable improvement, no? So what I'd propose is simple; alternate between writing leads so nobody gets burned out and they can elevate one another as they did the past two games. Ian led the narrative direction of Shadow Generations, so next game let the Sonic Team writers have a proper shot at doing a fully JP Sonic story again. Then Ian helps with the translation, has more time to help with the comics (theyre stronger with him frankly), and can come back stronger the following game.
