Unfortunately @colombolara_ could not present herself as she is following an exciting 💻course in Milan, but @hamerlinck_lisa, @GenbruggeLukas, @Norevanloon, @eva_dhaene and I represented the @FunGenLab during this interesting meeting. I will also attend the final day tomorrow!
Yesterday, the FunGen lab was present @ the Marguerite-Marie Delacroix's Conference on "Current Directions in Autism Research and NDDs". @Norevanloon rocked her poster presentation concerning organoids & @eva_dhaene gave an excellent talk on @colombolara_ her 3D genome research.

Excited to report our study in @NEJM on the discovery of deletions in a long noncoding RNA gene 🧬 (𝘊𝘏𝘈𝘚𝘌𝘙𝘙) as the cause of a newly defined human neurodevelopmental disorder 🧠. 🧵1/10 nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NE…
Well done Nore! 💪🏼
Busy, busy, busy so a little late to the party... Congratulations 🥳👏 to our own PhD student @Norevanloon for obtaining a prestigious @FWOVlaanderen PhD fellowship! Happy she can keep on working on our shared project with @PhotoBioLab ! Go, go, go Nore!
🤩
Hooray, last week we had our first 2-day lab retreat and it was awesome 🔥! Great combination of science and fun. Big shout out to the entire team for making it such a great experience🤩 and a special thanks to @eva_dhaene and @MichaelBVaughan for all the help!

Wauw, amazing work!
It took more than a DECADE... but finally it’s published!!! It started as a CRAZY idea but after tons of hard work we built it: We hijacked the endogenous secretion systems of Toxoplasma gondii, a brain parasite, to deliver active proteins to neurons 👇

👏Today @KeithSiew gave an excellent talk on his recent @NatureComms paper on the effects of spaceflight on kidneys 👏. He got the @FunGenLab team (even more) excited about space research 🚀🧬🚀. Thanks a lot @MichaelBVaughan for inviting him and arranging all the logistics!
🚀 @KeithSiew took us to outer space this morning with a great seminar about the effects of spaceflight on the kidney. Cosmic kidney disease is a thing! Thanks for hosting @MichaelBVaughan and @SVergult !
Congratulations to @LTubularCentre and all co-authors, including our very own team member @MichaelBVaughan 🥳👏. If you are interested in space research, go read this excellent paper!!👇👇👇
A behemoth of integrated omics data finally published.
@KeithSiew & @LTubularCentre kindly brought two @UCCPhysiology boys along for the ride!

Today, I’m thrilled have our lab’s work featured on the cover of @Nature
In this article, we have developed a therapeutic approach for a severe condition called Timothy syndrome. This has been a long journey. It started with making hiPS cell-derived neurons in 2D cultures 15 years ago when I was a postdoc and continued with later creating in the lab #organoid and then #assembloid models of this disease caused by a mutation in a calcium channel.
Over time, these human cellular models and the biological insights we gained enable us to design a therapeutic strategy, which we validated in vivo following circuit integration of patient-derived organoids into the rat brain.
Grateful for the incredible work led by @XiaoyuChenxy and @fikribirey in the lab! And the many close collaborators who participated to this line of research over the years.
