Sexual violence against women is common & something needs to be done to stop it.

Black & mixed women are more likely to experience sexual violence & less likely to get effective support. My research is trying to understand how sexual violence impacts black women’s mental health and identity.
Response so far has been great. Thank you to those willing to participate!
It would be good to speak to any other women wanting to share. There is more information below for anyone interested.
The latest #TheReceiptsPodcast highlights how sexual violence against black women starts soooo young & becomes “a part of growing up”. Young blacks girls are seen as sexual objects but are not truly desired. They are convinced that sexual attention is validation.
@audreythefinest makes a good point. Knowledge about misogyny, feminism etc is important for everyone
It’s not taught well enough and a lot of women don’t get the chance to understand how much this impacts them & what are and aren’t healthy sexual interactions
When @tolly_t spoke about how a girl’s sexual activity (consensual or not) becomes apart of her story!
It’s so true. I’ve seen too many times in therapy and research work. Society continues to insist that women & girls can’t be people outside of their sexuality
Sexual violence is a systemic issue. It goes beyond the individual acts. There are narratives, cultural practices & people in power that create & maintain it. Individual repercussions for perpetrators alone (even this doesn’t happen as much as it should)will not address the issue
