I’d like to see a new specialty- a Menopausal and Post Menopausal physician. I’d like to see women go into this field and really help us. I feel like I aged out of my OBGYN- I don’t want to sit with the mommy-to-be group. I don’t want to be told that symptoms are in my head and I look good, with a pat on the shoulder. I have extreme hot flashes, which sometimes include cold flashes kind of at the same time. I have these every hour to two hours all day and all night long. I break out in perspiration all over my body, my face gets hot and flushed, my ears feel like they are being cooked, I can’t think well at the time except for wanting to get cool, sometimes these feelings are extremely overpowering. I feel as if I’m an oven whose temperature goes all the way up to the hottest and stays there for 5-10 minutes before I feel it go down, having chills towards the end. More research into women’s health is incredibly necessary. Especially older women. We focus on younger people all the time and rightfully so, however there’s a huge swath of us who need help and no one listens.
