Our second event this week features Dr. Enrico Ramirez-Ruiz, Professor with @astroucsc 💫🌟✨, as he explores the New Frontiers in Transient Astrophysics.
⏰ 12 pm Friday, Oct. 9
📍Salon Cassia, BMAIN 2.402, UTRGV Brownsville
🍪Light refreshments provided
Dr. Ramirez-Ruiz will cover the recent advances in multi-messenger and transient astrophysics, focusing on what these discoveries may reveal about the cosmic origin of the Universe's gold, platinum, and other heavy metals.
This event is hosted by the @utrgv's Department of Physics and Astronomy and @stxspacescience, with sponsorship from @UTRGVCOS and the @RCSA1 .
This week we are bringing you in from the rain for two exiting community events!
First on the agenda: This Thursday, Oct. 8 at 5 pm in the Salon Cassia (BMAIN 2.402) on the @utrgv Brownsville campus hear from @STXSpaceScience's Dr. Mario Diaz at Un Lugar al Sol.
Dr. Diaz brings three decades of knowledge to this examination of the struggle of Mexican Americans to overcome segregation and access to higher education in Rio Grande Valley, with topics incl. the 1968 Elsa Edcouch HS walkout and the evolution of UTB-TSC>UT Pan-American>UTRGV.
Presented in Celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month by @UTRGV_CLA and School of Interdisciplinary Programs and Community Engagement with support from @stxspacescience .
Among the many talented students that received their diploma at today's @UTRGV commencement ceremony, were a cohort of very special individuals. This group is the first to graduate with PhDs in Physics from UTRGV, many of whom worked closely with mentors from @STXSpaceScience!

I am excited to share that my research article is now published in Science and featured on the cover! I am very grateful to all of the coauthors (Lawrence, @sedimentdynamic, Alex, @timgoudge ) for this major team effort.
Thank you @NSF and @utrgv for the support
In a global assessment of global river deltas, researchers uncovered a scaling relationship between channel length and land-building extent that echoes the so-called “Hack’s law” in river networks.

ALT During summer, sediment-laden water flows through the branching channel networks of the Yukon River delta in western Alaska, spreading into Norton Sound and depositing sediment thereabouts. The channelized flows and their spreading pattern exhibit a scaling relation between length and area observed across deltas worldwide, which suggests a universal rule for delta growth that resembles Hack’s law for river networks in upstream watersheds. Next Tuesday, Dec. 2, @STXSpaceScience will host a special guest for the last IFSS event of the Fall 2025 semester.
Don't miss out as @DraperLab 's Dr. Hollmann "shines a light" on his research, utilizing photons to measure everything from the microscopic to the planetary scale!
📅 Infinite Frontier Speaker Series ft. Dr. Joseph Hollmann
⏰ 6:30 pm Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025
📍 Salon Cassia, BMAIN 2.402, UTRGV Brownsville
🚀✨ The cosmos is calling!✨🚀
@utrgv 's @STXSpaceScience invites you to join GW10 – a celebration of 10th anniversary of the discovery of gravitational waves.
📅 Date: October 10, 2025
📍 Location: UTRGV, BMAIN 1.224
This milestone event will feature leading scientists, engaging presentations, and exciting discussions about the past and future of gravitational wave astronomy.

Well if their curious then tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 23, they will be listening to Dr. Ryan Oelkers as he brings the search for life forms beyond our Solar System to the @utrgv .
@stxspacscience is back in swing for Fall 2025 with our first Infinite Frontier Speaker Series event of the semester!
On Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 5:30 pm, @utrgv Assistant Professor Dr. Ryan Oelkers will why irrefutable evidence of life outside of the Solar System remains elusive.
Shout out to @STXSpaceScience members Dr. Volker Quetschke and Dr. Teviet Creighton representing @utrgv at the International Space Development Conference.

Great day at the International Space Development Conference — our @VanderbiltU Lunar Labs team had the chance to talk with @rookisaacman about @LIGO and gravitational-wave science.
Thank you @nss for inviting us and hosting a session on LILA — the first gravitational-wave experiment on the Moon to probe the fundamental nature of gravity! 🖖🏼
Taking place THIS Friday in Downtown Brownsville from 6-10 pm. Immerse yourself in a night full of creativity, music, food and space fun at SPACE FEST! 🚀Get in on all of the excitement, we'll see you there! 🧑🚀🪐
