If you have a Facebook account or an Instagram profile, then you would have received emails and direct messages in the past from Meta.
These can be spoofed and faked, and you can end up being scammed and ultimately hacked. In this post, I outline things you can look out for and I suggest ways to avoid being scammed.
Share this with your friends and family, and to anyone who may be vulnerable and perhaps are only using their phone to check their emails and DM's. It's so easy to inadvertently click something you shouldn't in there.
Let's help keep each other safe online.

“I think we've professionalised social media too much.” Do you agree?
Businesses worry about perfect graphics, expensive video, content calendars and polished copy when sometimes the person casually explaining something useful on their phone creates far more connection.
Has authenticity gone out the window? Are we simply not trusting we can do our own marketing anymore and having to use AI as a crutch?
Most of the people I work with are capable of doing their own social media, they just lack the confidence, as everyone's always looks so polished!
I'd love your thoughts on this. Tell me your experience....
Who have you learned most from over the years with regards to your business?
We've all had to learn from others at some stage. I have learned from Carol O'Kelly, Samantha Kelly, Greg Fry, Mari Smith and Matt Hughes and a whole heap more.
I've completed short courses, long courses, free and paid, working alongside some, watching others. It's been a blast to be honest, but we don't where we are today without acknowledging the hard work of others.
Thanks for all of the support folks. You're the reason I'm still here nearly 13 years later!

Running a small business means wearing a lot of hats, and social media can very quickly find its way to the bottom of the list.
But staying visible online doesn’t mean you need to post every day, be everywhere or constantly come up with brand-new ideas.
In my latest blog, I’m looking at how to make social media more manageable by publishing with purpose.
I cover monthly themes, batching content, repurposing what you already have and using the awareness, consideration and conversion funnel to guide what you post.
And importantly, why you shouldn’t always be selling!
If social media is one of those jobs you know you should be doing but struggle to find the time for, have a read.

I've had the pleasure of collaborating with Marie and Mags for 6 years now. We have worked on "Start Your Own Business", "How to Investigate Your Business Idea", "Social Enterprise Training" and so much more over the last few years.
It has helped me to stay grounded and has educated me on how attendees are still finding social media and marketing in general confusing.
No one person knows it all, and that's why its worked so well for us to work together these last few years. Learn more about us here: mariemanningfinancial.ie/abo…

🤖 Made with AI
It's nearly the end of September, and I'm sitting here thinking about what the month has brought me.
It's been a whirlwind of new and old clients after a quiet August. I'm pleased to have secured a new social media management client and have got a few more dates booked in for in person social media training.
I just wanted to show my gratitude for my clients' ongoing support. How was your month? Tell me your latest news!
Great reminder from Luan Wise on The AI Social Playbook: an AI persona isn't your customer. It's a way to work out what to ask your real customers. Her live demo in Claude shows exactly how to run one. pulse.ly/dihyx398un

You could be creating really useful social media content and still making it difficult for potential customers to find you.
We spend a lot of time thinking about what to post, how often to post and whether we're getting enough engagement, but it's also worth asking whether the words we're using actually tell Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn what our content is about.
That's where Social SEO comes in.
It doesn't mean filling your captions with keywords or going back to using huge lists of hashtags. It's about being clearer about what you do, understanding what your customers are searching for and creating content that answers those questions.
I explain how to start doing this in my latest blog, Social SEO: How to Make Your Business Easier to Find on Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn.
If you missed it last week, you can read it here: stomp.ie/post/social-seo
Are you making it easy for customers to find your business on social media?
We tend to think about SEO in relation to Google and our websites, but people are increasingly using Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn to search for businesses, services, recommendations and answers too.
That means the words you use in your profile, captions and videos can help people understand what you do and, importantly, help the right people find you.
In my latest blog, I’m looking at Social SEO, what it actually means for a small business and some practical changes you can make without turning every post into a collection of keywords.
If you’re regularly creating content but haven’t thought about how searchable that content is, this is a good place to start.

What kind of ways are you finding and developing to maintain your self-compassion and being more gentle with yourself?
Your business's core values
Does it help people make a decision about your business? I don't know; genuinely, I'm not sure, but either way, I want my audience to know.
I only want to help people feel more confident and still manage their time and promotion better.
One of our most popular podcasts over the summer was this one.
Do you think learning from your competition is an option? It's certainly worth considering!
Many business owners feel uncomfortable with the idea of doing a competitor analysis, worrying it may lead to copying.
In this episode, I share valuable strategies on how to effectively analyse your competitors without losing sight of your unique brand identity.
Competitor analysis isn’t about mimicking others but rather about uncovering what resonates with them and, hopefully, your customers. You learn about market trends, customer preferences, and areas you can build your USP.
Have a listen and see if you need to adopt some changes.
As I sit here and look at my desk and see just how much I managed to ACTUALLY get done over the last couple of months. I fully appreciate that's not a reality for many business owners. Especially those with children!
Do you want a bit of help with getting back into useful routines and strategies?
I have been extremely fortunate to work with some real action takers over the years, and Sinead is most certainly one of them as well.
Thank you for the lovely testimonial, and I look forward to working with you again soon!
If you deserve to be this happy when you get a bit of help, then send me a DM or an email to [email protected] and let's get working together.
