After spending the past five months working around Hawaii, R/V Sikuliaq is on its way home. During its 10-day transit from Honolulu to Seward, Alaska, Sikuliaq is hosting a cyber training cruise and a cohort of @STEMSEAS undergraduate students.

Today, I had the incredible opportunity to step aboard the Research Vessel Thompson, a vessel at the forefront of oceanic research. This isn’t just any maritime journey; it’s an educational odyssey offered by the STEMseas program for community college faculty so that we can give future undergrad students a real taste of marine science and life at sea.
Aboard the R/V Thompson, science comes to life in the most dynamic classroom you can imagine. From deploying subsea instruments to collecting oceanographic data, every moment is an opportunity to dive deep into hands-on learning. The #STEMseas initiative is bridging the gap between textbooks and the tides, cultivating the next wave of oceanographers, engineers, and marine biologists.
