Can #HCC extend beyond the margin we see on grayscale ultrasound?
New @radiology_rsna study explores “perfusion beyond margin” (PBM), #CEUS feature that may peak into tumor aggressiveness & prognosis.

And the biology went even deeper.
RNA sequencing showed PBM-associated changes involving:
- Angiogenesis
- Epithelial-mesenchymal transition
- An immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment
This provides a possible biologic explanation for what is being seen on CEUS.
8/8 Take-home:
The visible tumor margin may not tell the whole story. "Perfusion beyond margin" on CEUS may identify HCCs with vascular extension beyond their grayscale more invasive phenotype.

Can non-contrast abbreviated MRI (NC-AMRI) be used for post #TACE surveillance of #HCC? New in @radiology_rsna: performance of NC-AMRI using #LIRADS ancillary features for post-TACE treatment response assessment.

The authors conclude NC-AMRI demonstrates moderate diagnostic performance for post-TACE treatment monitoring but remains inferior to full-sequence liver MRI.
Its potential role may lie in selected surveillance settings rather than routine replacement of standard imaging.

This study contributes to the growing literature exploring aMRI protocols and their role in improving the accessibility and efficiency of #HCC surveillance and treatment monitoring.
