A very real reminder of how #SpaceDebris can potentially impact lives down here on Earth & why we need to take action for the long-term sustainability of space.
Early on Monday morning, the @CopernicusEU #Sentinel-1a satellite took its first data over Morocco since Friday’s tragic Earthquake.
This data from space – vital to help scientists and emergency responders understand the quake – was almost lost due to #SpaceDebris.
“We’re at a moment of great influence within the space community, where the actions we take...will have a direct impact on how humans experience space for generations to come" - @space_enabled of her work on #spacesustainability & the SSR.

There's no reason why countries can't make the Space Sustainability Rating (SSR) a requirement for providing non-state actors, authorization to conduct space operations and activities. To Earth's governments: Step up and lead us into an era of space exploration and resource utilization founded in space environmentalism and sustainability!
Let's see which government will be first across the line on doing this...Using the SSR in this manner is a lot more measurable than stating zero debris or space sustainability policies.

"In some ways, I was pleased that our first rating was low because it means we are all saying there's more to work to do and to grow."

🚀In 2022, a whopping 180 rockets were launched into space, many of them carrying loads destined for low earth orbit...which is getting uncomfortably crowded.
@SSR_Rating is helping users understand #sustainability in space with a new rating system.

Protecting #spacesustainability is a collective and ambitious effort.
Better understanding the footprint of #space missions and operations in orbit is the first step 🛰️🌏
Thank you @spaceforearth for giving us an opportunity to explain what the SSR is striving to achieve!
