Bridging Academia and Technology for the Future of Mining SORA Technology has launched a joint research project in Mozambique with the Resource Management Lab. at Hokkaido University, Instituto Superior Politécnico de Tete (ISPT), and International Coal Ventures Limited (ICVL). By bringing together academic expertise, local knowledge, and SORA Technology’s drone operations and data capabilities across Africa, the collaboration explores how drone-acquired RGB and multispectral imagery, as well as 3D data, can support environmental assessment, slope stability evaluation, and geological analysis at mining sites. Mission Accomplished in Mozambique! We’re excited to share that our field operations in Mozambique have been successfully completed — with four drone flights and eight rounds of larvicide application across multiple communities. But this project was about much more than drones and larvicide. Working closely with the Provincial Health Service (SPS), we coordinated extensively with national and local authorities to build understanding and support for this new, technology-enabled approach to malaria control. Community sensitization was also key. For many community members, the idea that drones and AI could help identify potential mosquito breeding sites was completely new. But once the technology and its purpose were explained, communities were highly understanding and cooperative. Another important achievement was building local capacity. Despite limited experience using digital maps for field navigation, locally recruited staff quickly gained the necessary skills after just a few training sessions. Throughout the project, we also saw the SPS team become increasingly efficient in conducting surveys and field activities. A huge thank you to the Mozambique team, SPS, local authorities, communities, and everyone who made these operations possible! モザンビークでのオペレーション完了！ モザンビークで実施してきたフィールドオペレーションが無事に完了しました。複数のコミュニティを対象に、計4回のドローン飛行と8回の薬剤散布を実施しました。 しかし、今回のプロジェクトで得られた成果は、ドローン飛行や薬剤散布だけではありません。 州保健局と緊密に連携しながら、国や地域の行政機関と何度も調整を重ね、テクノロジーを活用した新しいマラリア対策への理解と協力を得ながらプロジェクトを進めてきました。 地域コミュニティへの丁寧な説明も重要なポイントでした。 多くの住民にとって、ドローンやAIを活用して蚊の発生源となり得る場所を特定するという取り組みは、初めて耳にするものでした。しかし、技術の仕組みや目的を丁寧に説明することで、地域の皆さんにも取り組みへの理解が広がり、協力を得ることができました。 そして、もう一つの大きな成果が、現地での人材育成です。デジタル地図を使ったフィールドでのナビゲーションに慣れていなかった現地スタッフも、数回のトレーニングを経て、必要なスキルを短期間で習得。さらにプロジェクトを進める中で、州保健局のチームによる調査やフィールド活動も日に日に効率化していきました。 モザンビークチーム、州保健局、行政機関、地域コミュニティ、そして今回のオペレーションを支えてくださったすべての皆さまに、心から感謝いたします！ 今後は、昆虫学的分析を進めてまいります。 #モザンビーク #マラリア #ドローン

Taking Malaria Control to the Next Level in Benin We are excited to announce the launch of a large-scale Larval Source Management (LSM) project in the Republic of Benin, leveraging satellite data, drones, AI, and digital technology. Implemented across six communes in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Benin and UNICEF, with funding from the Government of Japan, the project brings together advanced technology and on-the-ground action to tackle one of Benin’s most serious public health challenges — malaria. During a session exploring AI and digital innovation for health across Asia and the Pacific, one question came up clearly: “How will SORA Technology scale?” It’s a question we hear often — and an important one.
