Check out Mr. Deki’s story of touching the ocean for the first time in Ocean City. Sometimes the most powerful stories come straight from the people we serve. In this one, a member of our Senior Services community shares what SOME's staff and friends have come to mean to him: an extended family beyond words. Thank you The Washington Home for helping to make this possible.
Just like that another Center For Employment Training class is graduating . We are so proud of you all! We are thankful to epnac.com for their support and work on these headshots.
At SOME, we support our neighbors by focusing on the whole person. Our daytime program, ABLE (After Breakfast Lateral Engagement), offers adults a welcoming space to connect with community, build skills, and access resources.
From computer classes and job readiness support to creative activities and case management, ABLE helps neighbors take steps toward stability and opportunity.
Hear from ABLE clients about what that support means in their day-to-day lives. Your donations and your time make this work possible.
Thank you for standing with our neighbors.
Catch up with SOME in the community. From sharing our mission and programs with Altria employees as they assembled 100 grooming kits for our guests, to connecting with neighbors at community days in Ward 8 and Capitol Heights, we’re grateful for every opportunity to build partnerships, share resources, and strengthen our impact across the region.
Behind the scenes at Capital One Arena, 20 SOME building trades trainees saw electrical systems, HVAC infrastructure, and real teamwork in action. Thanks to @ClarkBuilds and @MSE Monumental Sports & Entertainment for bringing the classroom to life.
When kids have housing stability, supportive adults, and a community that shows up for them, everything changes.
Thank you to @USACoutreach, Affinity Nonprofits, Huntington T. Block, Consigli, Ian H. Graham Insurance, and @FarmerMacNews for donating backpacks and resources to families served by @SOME_DC.
Want to support families this back-to-school season? Here is how you can help: Donate to A Stable Home for a Strong Start (some.org/stability)
Thank you to our partners for leading the way.
Farmer Mac showed up in a big way for SOME families this back-to-school season! Their team fulfilled our school supply wish list and donated 270 backpacks , helping students start the year with the tools they need to learn and thrive.
And their support goes far beyond back-to-school. Throughout the year, Farmer Mac employees have also assembled grocery bags for SOME housing residents and professional development kits for students at the SOME Center for Employment Training.
We’re so grateful for Farmer Mac’s continued partnership and commitment to showing up for our community all year long! 💙

Our dining hall staff hosted the SOME Fashion Show, featuring SOME clients as models who hand-picked their outfits from the SOME Clothing Room. Every piece came from our collection of hundreds of fashionable options for all sizes, including clothing, shoes, and accessories. When people have what they need, they shine.
Earlier this month, our SOME Center for Employment Training (CET) trainees visited @GoldmanSachs for a financial literacy and career development workshop where they gained valuable insight into financial literacy and professional career development.
They learned strategies for budgeting, saving, and building financial stability, and heard firsthand career stories from Goldman Sachs professionals. The visit wrapped up with a tour of the penthouse floor and photos overlooking the DC skyline. This visit reinforced CET's commitment to providing learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom and prepare trainees for lifelong success. By combining financial education with career exposure, the Goldman Sachs visit equipped trainees with knowledge and confidence that will support their future careers and economic mobility.

Join us for an unforgettable evening as we come together to raise critical funds and celebrate the resilience of our neighbor's experiencing poverty and homelessness across Washington, DC. Your support helps power SOME's Whole Person Care model, providing nutritious meals, affordable and supportive housing, healthcare, workforce development, and essential services that create lasting pathways to stability and economic mobility.
Meet Oliver Swain, an 8-year-old change maker who is already building a more compassionate world.
For his science fair project, "Ade vs Aid," Oliver got curious about generosity and decided to test it out for himself. Earlier this winter, he had launched "Cocoa for a Cause," a fundraising hot cocoa stand. Oliver’s Ade vs Aid science fair project won first place in second grade at John Lewis Elementary School.
Combined, these two projects raised $200 for SOME's mission to serve our neighbors in need. Oliver, we cannot wait to see what you build next. Thanks for supporting SOME’s mission.
SOMEs CET's (Center for Employment Training) Bell Ringing Ceremony brought our community together to celebrate trainees who secured full-time careers in healthcare and building trades.
Each graduate shared their journey; from the challenges they faced to the moment they walked into CET ready for a fresh start. Then they proudly rang the bell, marking a new chapter for themselves and their families. Every bell ring represents increased economic stability, career growth, and a step toward breaking the cycle of poverty.
The best way to prepare for the real thing is to practice it. Our Center for Employment Training (CET) trainees did exactly that at our annual Mock Interview Day alongside dedicated volunteers from @IFMA, a partner who has stood with our program for more than 20 years. This event was about building confidence, sharpening skills, and reminding every trainee that they are ready.
What if your next opportunity was closer than you thought? Yesterday's Career Connections event invited our participants to explore careers right here at SOME, from housing and case management to security, administration, and beyond.
