Remembering Christopher Lawford (JFK's nephew, who I know from All My Children) and Bill Daily, best known for I Dream of Jeannie and The Bob Newhart Show. Both died on today's date in 2018; Lawford was only 63, and Daily was 91.

A job is supposed to pay enough to afford living. We don’t exist to generate profit for the ultra-rich while endlessly struggling to get by.

"It's a bitter little world full of sad surprises." Celebrating Joan Bennett on Day 5 of @TCM’s Summer Under the Stars. My pick of the day is an underrated noir -- Hollow Triumph (1948), also known as The Scar. It's good stuff, y'all. Treat yourself. #SUTS

And the degree to which this preponderance is exploited in far too many ways. Miller just one of the most egregious exploiters (in so many ways, but this one as well).

Do not laugh about this speech. It’s impossible to follow but he’s directly challenging our right to vote. The president of the United States is lying in order to wage war on our democracy and against the states. I don’t care your politics; everybody should be outraged.

Yes, Meet The Press sucks hard under Kristin Welker, and it sucked just as much with Chuck Todd, but this photo is a reminder that it was also an utter fucking nightmare when Tim Russert hosted.

Still heavenly!
A very special #flashback today, ladies and gents, to exactly 63 years ago today: the 1963 release of Seven Steps to Heaven. My first album with Miles! And one I think the bass sounds particularly great on. Give it a listen here: ow.ly/ofPq50OIrrw

"If anyone had listened to Tammy Watson who was raped by Valentine Underwood six weeks before he killed Mandi and Rosie, they'd be alive. By the time I heard her story, it was too late." New @monthly piece about my book Twentynine Palms and an anniversary. washingtonmonthly.com/2026/0…

Actually, both vie fiercely for either title.

My book Twentynine Palms, having its 25th anni, is about 2 girls who were killed by a Marine with a history of sex crimes, inc the rape of a sgt major's daughter. No one would listen to her, but I did. "A strange and brilliant story by an impt American writer."- Hunter Thompson.
