For a while I have been concerned that @X has promoted distinctly harmful narratives that do not align with my values or those of organisation. For this reason, I am now ceasing my use of this platform & have opened an account on @bluesky bsky.app/profile/steveapplet…

Saddened to hear of the death of #EthelKennedy. Her work as a human rights advocate was a significant memorial to her husband’s too short life. Her passing marks another break with that traditional of American liberal political dynasties.

Much discussion about benefits of outreach teams in mental health. And promises to “learn the lessons” from the Nottingham tragedy - a phrase that infuriates families. But the real question is why we unlearned past lessons & what this tells us about future safety. 🧵

Today's @CareQualityComm report not only identifies the mistakes and gaps in this awful case, but demonstrates a longer, systemic failure to build on the progress made 20 years ago with #assertiveoutreach as part of the #NSF and service improvements 1/2

For us as leaders in the sector, we must continue to push for #reform and #investment in the appropriate range of services and supports. If we don't, I fear this case will come to be seen of negative and devisive significance in the tide of #mentalhealth reform in #England 2/2

This from @ProfLAppleby is exactly right #mentalhealth
Hearing commentators saying the problem is we closed the old hospitals but never created care in the community. Simplistic & poorly informed. In early 2000s, 700 new specialised community teams were created inc 220 outreach teams. Question is how this progress was lost.

I enjoy @TheNewsAgents but yesterday’s episode was disappointing for @jonsopel & @maitlis using #stigmatising & inappropriate language in relation to #mentalhealth including certified/men in white coats/lunatic/getting your head examined. I expect better of them #languagematters
