🧠 Evidence-based psychosis-specific psychotherapies are recommended across the schizophrenia spectrum. However, training in these specialized therapies is often not mandatory for psychotherapists, leading to a fragmented field of expertise. This large-scale survey of 1,382 psychiatrists and clinical psychologists in Switzerland assessed self-reported psychotherapy workshop attendance for psychosis. Nearly half of participants attended at least one workshop, although only roughly a third had attended as part of their mandatory psychotherapy training. 🔎 Social network analyses revealed that the overall psychosis psychotherapy training landscape remains highly fragmented and without clear training pathways. Popular workshops included cognitive behavioral therapy for psychosis and psychoeducation, but co-attendance rates between different workshop types rarely exceeded 10%. Furthermore, attendance patterns differed significantly based on occupational roles (psychiatrists vs. psychotherapists) and therapeutic orientations (CBT vs. psychodynamic vs. systemic vs. humanistic), indicating inconsistencies in access. 💡 These findings highlight the urgent need for evidence-informed measures to address training gaps and promote guideline-aligned specialization pathways. 🔗 Read the full study: nature.com/articles/s41537-0… #CBT #MentalHealth #Psychosis #PsychotherapyResearch

🧠 Youth at clinical high-risk (CHR) for psychosis frequently experience negative symptoms, but traditional clinical interviews have limitations in capturing these experiences. Digital phenotyping methods are a promising alternative to measure these symptoms in daily life, but understanding user and stakeholder perception remains crucial for widespread adoption and ethical aspects. In this recently accepted study (Zhang et al., 2026), youth at CHR (n = 45) and relatives (n = 18) completed surveys and interviews evaluating the perceived importance and concerns of digital phenotyping tools. 🔐 Results showed low levels of concern overall. Concerns regarding privacy were mitigated after providing clarifications on data protection policies. Participants also found most ecological momentary assessment questions clear, providing suggestions for revision where necessary. 💡 Ultimately, both groups largely supported the use and subjective importance of digital phenotyping for negative symptoms, working toward greater alignment of research-driven, lived-experience, and stakeholder perspectives. 🔗 Read the full study: academic.oup.com/schizbullop… #Mentalhealth #Psychosis #ClinicalHighRisk #DigitalPhenotyping #EcologicalMomentaryAssessment

🧠 CBT for psychosis works for some people, but not for everyone. Why? We got in touch with Dr Sandra Vieira, Sir Henry Wellcome Research Fellow and one of the corresponding authors of the latest systematic review published in Schizophrenia Research, to ask about their latest research: 💬 “Rather than focus on the efficacy of CBT for psychosis (CBTp), we wanted to examine the relationship between service users’ baseline characteristics and if these could predict engagement and response to CBTp.” 🔎 The review, which included 23 studies and more than 3,200 participants, found no baseline predictor of engagement or response was consistently replicated across studies. The authors conclude that more targeted research is needed, particularly in early psychosis, to identify robust pre-treatment predictors and move towards precision psychotherapy. ➡️ So, what’s next for the Early Intervention in Psychosis team at King’s College London? 💬 “We’re already working on this on two fronts. First, we would like to gather clinical psychologists' and service users' perspectives on what predicts outcomes and encourages user’s engagement in CBTp and contrast these with the predictors used in the literature. We anticipate some overlap but expect that involving clinicians and service users will capture perspectives that aren’t currently evident in the available literature, given most predictor research uses retrospective data not collected for this purpose. Second, we would like to use machine learning methods to build models for individual prediction of likely outcome following CBTp using service users’ clinical and psychosocial profiles." 📖 Check out the full review published by Denisa Gorina, Maria Chiara Del Piccolo, Dr Anna Georgiades and Sandra Vieira in Schizophrenia Research here: sciencedirect.com/science/ar… #psychosis #CBTp #earlyintervention #precisionpsychiatry #WellcomeTrust

🧠 How might moments of positive emotional connection differ for young people at clinical high risk for psychosis and their caregivers? Researchers examined “positivity resonance”—shared moments of positive emotion—during recorded conversations between caregivers and youth at clinical high risk for psychosis compared with typically developing youth. Using automated facial expression analysis, the study found that pairs involving youth at clinical high risk entered states of positive emotional connection significantly less often. The findings offer a new perspective on real-time social and emotional dynamics in clinical high-risk populations while also demonstrating the potential of automated methods for studying these interactions. 🔗 Read the study: sciencedirect.com/science/ar… #ClinicalHighRisk #PsychosisResearch #SchizophreniaResearch #SocialConnection #MentalHealthResearch

💊 What happens to weight and the gut microbiome when semaglutide is used in people with schizophrenia? A recent open-label trial followed individuals with schizophrenia receiving clozapine or olanzapine during a 24-week semaglutide intervention. Researchers examined changes in body weight and cardiometabolic measures alongside changes in gut microbiota diversity and composition, with additional weight follow-up extending to 76 weeks. The study adds to growing research exploring how GLP-1 receptor agonists may address metabolic health challenges associated with antipsychotic treatment. 🔗 Read more: sciencedirect.com/science/ar… #SchizophreniaResearch #GLP1 #MetabolicHealth #Psychiatry #Microbiome #MentalHealthResearch
