Damage stability is more than meeting a Rule requirement. It's about understanding an #offshore unit's ability to remain afloat in storm winds after sustaining hull damage or flooding and to reduce the risk of progressive flooding. Offshore damage stability criteria help address key questions such as: • How does the unit respond if one or more compartments are flooded? • Do heel and trim remain within the prescribed limits of the 𝐀𝐁𝐒 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 and MODU Code? • Has the piping been checked to limit progressive flooding into undamaged compartments? This is why the 𝐀𝐁𝐒 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 address defined damage scenarios, residual stability criteria for heel, trim and freeboard, and include checks for progressive flooding. When damage remains within the extents defined by the 𝐀𝐁𝐒 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 and MODU Code, the unit is designed to survive and remain afloat. This helps protect onboard personnel from the dangers of an evacuation at sea. Review our latest Rules for Building and Classing Offshore Units: pub-rm20.apps.eagle.org/r/Of…
