Grandson Kason showed up to Saturday’s game with a balloon animal he made and a picture he drew and colored to give our mascot, Sammy. He (and I) appreciate how well Sammy engages with fans. Kids love our Bearkat!

What a thrill to visit with the incomparable Frank Parker yesterday! He shared insights from his many years as Student Affairs VP in a Fireside Chat with Dr. Dannie Moore, our current VPSA, at the SGA 40th reunion celebration. Lots of wisdom in that room!

This Saturday, we bring Bearkat football home to Bowers Stadium as we take on Tulsa. Our team has been putting in the work, and I’m looking forward to a great season and having the Bearkats back where they belong. See you at Bowers!

Provost Yenduri & I enjoyed celebrating our Smith-Hutson Scholars and 30 years of creating opportunities for students. A special donor began an extraordinary scholarship program that has grown into a community of mentoring, leadership, service, and support.

Campus administrators and I enjoyed spending time with our student leaders at the KatClub. It was a great opportunity to connect with some of our students who lead student organizations, positively influence campus climate and help make Sam such a special place.

It was wonderful to welcome our faculty and staff back as we begin a new academic year. I’m grateful for all they do to support our students and proud of the momentum we’re building together at Sam Houston State University.

It was a pleasure to host Governor Greg Abbott and members of the Texas Legislature at SHSU’s The Woodlands Center yesterday. Thanks to all for spending time with our exemplary students and sharing your vision on higher education and workforce development in Texas.

What is it they say? You are never too old to chase your dreams? I get to live my dream every day as President of Sam Houston. Today, thousands of Bearkats are taking another step toward dreams of their own, and I’m grateful to be part of the journey. Have a great first day!

I enjoyed spending time with this year’s Executive MBA students and sharing a few lessons I’ve learned through the years. As the longest-running accredited grad degree in banking/ financial in the country, the program has been preparing banking professionals for decades.
