Collab manager roles in Web3 are becoming a problem, and no one is talking about it. This role has become a "become influencer quick" pill for web3 degens who only know how to use discord and a spreadsheet, and they destroy projects they work on. Want the playbook of how shady CMs operate in the space? It's like this: 1. Grind to engagement to eventually get your first gig with a semi-hyped project. 2. Squeeze every ounce of engagement you can get on your posts as a CM by posting subliminal WL-related posts. 3. Since you control how the supply is distributed, fuck it... take 10, 15, 30 for yourself. Hell, give 50 more to your friends. Who's gonna know? 4. Project minted out and work is done? Use clout from previous CM project to land yourself a new role with a more hyped project. 5. Rinse and repeat for as long as you can without consequence. This has been the case for a lot of hyped projects that have launched recently, and it barely gets talked about. CMs get too much power with no accountability. You can argue that they have even more power in a project than the founders do pre-launch. Supply distribution, eyes of the market... all in their hands. Any project who cares about what they're building would ensure that they have a reliable, trust-worthy CM who has a good reputation and solid experience working in that field. If they spend hours on Q/A to make sure the art looks good, they should be spending the same amount of time ensuring the quality of people who hold their tokens.
