Starting tomorrow the Heat Emergency Plan is activated in New York City. We are heading into one of the most dangerous stretches of extreme heat in years, with heat indexes possibly reaching triple digits and little relief at night. This kind of prolonged heat is especially risky, so find a cool place now. Any air conditioned space works, including libraries, malls, a friend’s home, or a city cooling center. Locate one at nyc.gov/beattheheat. Check on older adults, relatives, and anyone without AC.   With the heat rising, there is also an increased chance of storms. These storms can develop quickly and bring sudden, intense rainfall that can lead to flash flooding within minutes.  Sign up for Notify NYC by texting NotifyNYC to 692-692 to stay informed about flooding. Sign up for basement alerts at on.nyc.gov/basements.   For more safety information, visit nyc.gov/floodprep.
