Earlier this week, about 2 dozen Middle Schoolers celebrated the end of the school year at a Washington Wildthings game as a reward for showing the South Fayette Way through our PBIS program. Everyone (including chaperones!) got into the swing of things and had a blast participating in all of the extra fun that comes with being at a Wildthings Game. A legendary day in the life of a South Fayette High School senior is the Senior Walk through the MS, ES, and IS. The memories flood back as they realize how much they have changed and how far they have come over the years. Teachers are nostalgic and some shed a few tears. And our younger Lions begin to dream of their legendary day in the future. This is definitely a tradition that fills us all with pride and reflects the excellence of our graduating class. Our seventh and eighth graders participated in the LEAD Program presented by Leadership Development, an impactful initiative focused on helping students make positive choices and become strong leaders. Guest speaker Brad Killmeyer, Director of Leadership Development’s Student Leadership Academy and the youngest president of Pittsburgh’s National Speakers Association, spoke with students about important topics including substance abuse prevention, social media awareness, cyberbullying, internet safety, accountability, communication, and leadership skills. The engaging presentation encouraged students to think critically about their decisions and the impact they can have on others. Leadership Development was founded by Mr. Killmeyer in partnership with Allegheny County Magisterial District Judge Ron Arnoni. #SFLionPride #sfmslions

Ten of our seven and eighth graders competed on two of the fifteen teams at the Junior Envirothon competition yesterday at the South Park Museum Building. Our Lions trained for this competition and had the chance to demonstrate their expertise in a particular area of study including Forestry, Aquatics, Land/Soil, Wildlife, and Current Events. A special congratulations to seventh grader Siddharth Kiran who earned recognition for the highest score overall in the category of Aquatics! Before heading back to campus, our SFMS kids got to take a detour through the game preserve at South Park where they caught sight of peacocks, turtles, and a few other feathered friends! #SFLionPride #sfmslions

The MS is hosting an End of the Year Door Decorating Contest with a "School's Out for Summer" theme. Check out these contestants! Votes cost $1 each and can be cast during lunch periods. The winning homeroom gets an ice cream party! While closing the doors on this school year, students are helping open the doors of opportunity for their peers. After earning a $500 scholarship in an earlier Lumiere's contest, we're proud to share that eighth grader Advai Shyam went a step further to enter Lumiere's Spring contest as well. From over 500 essays from 48 countries, Advai won the Excellence Award and a $1,000 scholarship to join any Lumiere’s Junior Research Program. This will allow him to work with a PhD mentor while completing a final project based on his interests. His mentor will provide a letter of recommendation, and Advai will have the option to publish his work in an academic journal. Amazing! #SFLionPride #sfmslions

Kicks were flying, bases were run, and school spirit was high during the fifth annual Middle School Kickball Tournament yesterday! Students and staff enjoyed a day full of friendly competition, teamwork, and plenty of fun as teams battled it out on the field throughout the day. While lasting memories were created for everyone, the teams walking away as champions were Team Ruffolo (6th grade), Team Piccirilli (7th grade), and Team Bacco (8th grade)! Congratulations!
