We've had some rain, but we're still in drought. Recent rainfall has been welcome, but after months of dry weather it takes much more than a few wet days for water resources to recover. Before rain can replenish rivers, reservoirs and groundwater sources, much of it is absorbed by dry soils that have lost moisture over the summer.
That's why steady, sustained rainfall over weeks and months is far more effective than short bursts of heavy rain. While river levels may rise quickly after rainfall, it takes much longer for the wider water environment and water resources to recover.
In the video below, our Senior Water Resources Partner, Paul, explains more 👇

Did you know the average person uses around 145 litres of water every day? 😮💧
Many of us don’t realise how quickly it adds up, but water plays a key role in our everyday routines – with flushing the toilet, showering, bathing and using the sink accounting for around two-thirds of the water we use at home.
From shortening your shower time to fixing a leaking loo and using appliances efficiently, there are lots of simple ways to reduce water use and save money on your bills. Every drop counts. 💙

🚧 🚱UPDATE – KT21🚱 🚧
We’re pleased to confirm that the repair to the damaged pipe affecting customers in the Ashstead area has been completed, and water has been successfully restored.
You may experience intermittent supply or low pressure for a little while longer as the network returns to normal. It’s not unusual when water returns to experience air in the system, bubbles or short-term discolouration. If the water is discoloured, run your tap for a few minutes and it should clear. If this doesn’t work, turn the tap off, wait 20 minutes and try again. It’s fine to use your water as normal when your water runs clear. Visit our water quality pages for more information about the water in your area: seswater.co.uk/household/you…
We're sorry for the disruption this has caused and would like to thank you for your patience while we completed the repair.
Finally, if you or someone you know needs a little extra support, get in touch so that we can understand your situation and take it into account as best we can: seswater.co.uk/household/hel…
Barnett Wood Lane - KT21
We're continuing to restore water supplied to customers in the KT21 area following a burst water main at Barnett Wood Lane.
We have been delivering bottled water to customers who are registered as water dependent on our Core Priority Services Register.
Your water should be returning soon, although you may experience intermittent supply or low pressure for a little while longer as the network returns to normal.

Sometimes after a network has been emptied, air locks can occur either in our pipes or customers’ – running taps for a short while can help bring water through. If you leave your house, or when you go to bed, please make sure that taps are switched off so that when water does return you don’t experience an accidental flood.
Latest updates here: seswater.co.uk/household/hel…
We’re aware of a burst main on Barnet Wood Lane, which means some customers may be experiencing low water pressure or no water in the surrounding areas. Our teams are currently on site.
We will be delivering bottled water this morning to customers who are registered as water dependent on our Core Priority Services Register.
Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this. We'll provide another update at 12.30pm.
