A seal doesn't set pump pressure. It sees chamber pressure, and balance ratio decides how much reaches the faces. At 150 psi: about 105 psi face load unbalanced, 38 balanced. Gauge the chamber before you blame the seal. bit.ly/4dFXXgi #MechanicalSeals

Friday Featured Product: SEPCO HydraLoad. A bearing-grade bushing in the stuffing box steadies the shaft so packing lasts longer. The lantern ring is separate: if it cracks or clogs, replace the ring, not the assembly. bit.ly/3VzgvZz #PumpReliability

Many "seal failures" trace back to how the seal went in: setting clips left on, gland nuts tightened unevenly, faces handled bare-handed. Checklists catch some of it. Hands-on training and honest failure codes catch more. bit.ly/4yipcEU #MechanicalSeals

Annual SEPCO steak cookout today: ribeyes, baked potatoes, a full salad bar, and dessert. Thanks to the people who build, test, and ship our seals and packing every day, and to Matt, Jean, and Bobby for making sure everything was perfect. #SEPCO #Manufacturing

Hydrapulper pump at a tissue mill: seals lasting 1–2 weeks. Cause: an unbolted wet end and pipe strain moving the shaft. A SEPCO PSS air seal tolerates 0.062" TIR and unlimited axial movement. It's still in service today. bit.ly/3VJjkY4 #PulpAndPaper

Tuesday tip: seal faces that look like they ran dry may have been boiling. When seal chamber pressure falls below the fluid's vapor pressure at chamber temperature, the film flashes across the faces. Check vapor margin at measured temperature, not design temperature.

A flange that passes hydrotest and weeps two days later usually lost bolt load. The gasket didn't fail. Tighten in passes: 20–30%, 50–70%, then 100% in a cross pattern. Finish with circular passes at 100% until no nut turns. Lubricate threads and nut faces. #Gaskets

Only 10% of bearings ever reach their L10 life. 52% of the failures are oil contamination. Not load. Not alignment. Dirt and water getting into the housing. The EXP is a true non-contact isolator: dual expellers, nothing touching your shaft. bit.ly/3THzLTO

A hose that fails in a fire doesn't just leak. It feeds the fire. Pyrosleeve is silicone-coated braided glass, made in Alabaster. 1,900°F for 15 to 20 minutes. 9,500 cycles on the Wyzenbeck abrasion test. Self-extinguishing. 5/16" to 3-1/2" ID.

Torque is not clamp load. Most of what you put into a flange bolt goes to friction — under the nut face and in the threads. Only a fraction becomes bolt stretch, and stretch is what seals the gasket. Dry bolts and lubricated bolts at the same torque are two different joints.

Your IR gun assumes an emissivity of 0.95. Polished stainless is about 0.15. That gap is why the gland reads cool when it isn't. The error always runs low. Flat black tape on the gland, let it come to temperature, shoot the tape.

More seals die on Monday morning than on Friday afternoon. A pump that sat all weekend has settled solids in the chamber, a stagnant flush line, and in crystallizing service, crystals on the atmospheric side of the faces. Verify flush flow before the motor turns.

Most high-temp packing fails the same way: the binders cook out, the set loses volume, and the valve starts weeping. ML2001W has no binders to lose. Pure graphite on an Inconel wire carrier. 4,500 psi. 1,250°F. bit.ly/4dfucmg #ValvePacking #Packing

Most bearings don't fail from load. They fail from contamination. Water and dirt get past a worn lip seal, degrade the lubricant, and the bearing follows. Keeping the housing clean is cheaper than any bearing you'll ever buy.

Tuesday tip for chemical processors: When a seal fails early, check the elastomer before the faces. Viton handles most acids and hydrocarbons, but not hot amines. EPR handles amines, caustics and steam, but dies in petroleum. Match the O-ring to the fluid.

Most split seal failures aren't seal failures. They're a worn bearing, uneven gland torque, or grit at the split line — and the seal takes the blame. Our 12-step install checklist, including the step most guides skip: bit.ly/3UU1iBX #MechanicalSeals #PumpReliability
