Useful reminder to those complaining about refugees in Europe: if you want less refugees, your main enemy is the US Military Industrial Complex.
The U.S. post-9/11 wars have displaced at least 38 million people.  This exceeds those displaced by every war since 1900, except for World War II.

‼️ ‼️ This is really big. I have said many times that this was coming - but I did not expect it now already. Putin obviously believes that he has the necessary leverage now and it seems from what has been reported about Witkoff saying the European security architecture should be reviewed, that the US supports it.
Quellen: The Telegraph, Focus .ua, Echo FM

Precies dit!
A narrow win for democracy over neo-fascism in Brazil. But ageing leader vs young rival spells trouble at the next elections. A clear win for a grassroots movement in Serbia, but a major risk of that victory being hijacked by crude geopolitics/war lobby and turned against Serbia.

A forecast
I agree that in Serbia's foreign policy nothing will change because foreign policy of a country is the outcome of its geopolitical position. However, in a few first months. the atmospherics will probably change. Vucic, without ever acknowledging it, followed Tito's foreign policy. The new govt (if is formed) will at first go back to a blind pro-EU policy until they get disappointed like everybody before them & will then try to reignite relations with China.

Very significant. Mecca Pact parties discussing regional security with Iran. Working around the US by the look of it.
Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan’s Army chief Asim Munir, and Turkey’s Intelligence head Ibrahim Kalin, will hold a joint meeting with Iranian officials in Tehran today. According to Iran’s National Security Council, the sides will discuss joint regional security.

The last serious migration crisis in Europe began after 2011 when that ever-so-defensive alliance, NATO, bombed Libya to smithereens. This opened up the refugee migration floodgates (just as Gaddafi warned). But Ursula wants you to forget that.

COLUMN: RUTTE’S HIGHWAY TO THE HELL Max von Kreyfelt BREAKING NEWS.

Here we have Chinese venture capitalist and political scientist Eric Li delivering a brutal indictment of the Western political model. He argues that countries blindly copying the West are setting themselves up for failure. Democracy promises power to the people but repeatedly fails to deliver real meaningful results. Elections become little more than political theatre, and voting is sold as empowerment while leaving ordinary citizens trapped in a system that often serves the powerful, not the people. China chose its own path, and it delivered results.....

The ugly truth about France and some of the other European countries currently in turmoil - and which none of the politicians want to admit because it'd be political suicide - is that you can't solve the problem by going after immigrants (as the right asserts) or the rich (as the left asserts), but you could solve it by going after the old. One extraordinary statistic for you: people over 60 in France, a quarter of the population, own 60% of France's wealth, non-financial and financial (ofce.fr/pdf/revue/2025/3-192…). And here is another crazy statistic: that same quarter of the population, those above 60, receive nearly two-thirds of all social spending by the French government (previssima.fr/actualite/prot…) - which is famously among the highest in the world (France's government spending is an insane 57.3% of GDP). Last statistic: they make up about 40% of voters because they're a third of registered voters (insee.fr/fr/statistiques/266…), and they turn out far more than anyone else (franceinfo.fr/elections/sond…). Put our 3 statistics together and there's almost a bit of an apartheid situation here: the old own most of the country's wealth, collect most of the social spending and have the political power to keep it that way. Which makes them a de-facto rentier class, living off assets and transfers paid for by younger generations. And, of course, at the risk of stating a truism, the future is built by the young. Yet France keeps effectively taking money away from them to give it to those whose working lives are already behind them - and need the money far less since they already own the country's wealth. What about inheritance, I hear you ask? That's the funniest/saddest aspect: given that life expectancy has kept rising, the French now inherit a home at 54 on average. The most common case is someone in their 80s leaving it to heirs in their 50s, in effect the very old transferring wealth to the about-to-be old (insee.fr/fr/statistiques/fic…). You can add this to our earlier apartheid statement: on top of all the rest, even when the old finally let go of their wealth, it stays within their own "camp". That's my personal situation, incidentally: I'm 42, my father is 71 and he is starting to look at ways to pass things on to me and my siblings, when our professional lives are already well settled, so it'll arrive when it changes things the least, which is pretty much the French system in a nutshell. Now, I get that there'd be some unfairness in going after them: they paid into the system their entire working lives, playing by the rules of a social contract that told them if they paid up they'd collect at the end. Changing the rules now means breaking that promise, which is admittedly unfair. But there's no magic wealth tree in any society: you can only take it where it is. That's the way most major societal transformations end up happening. They're often triggered by a catastrophic event (the so-called "four horsemen": mass-mobilisation war, revolution, state collapse, plague) BUT what really drives change is a transfer: wealth gets pried from the privileged class who've been sitting on it and handed to those who'll build what comes next. So, in theory and in an ideal world, you can do without the catastrophic event and directly proceed with the transfer... The fact that in France, and elsewhere in Europe, it's the youth protesting is probably no coincidence - even though they don't frame it as a generational fight. And even though, cruel irony, the left politicians many of them march behind promise to bring the retirement age back to 60 (lcp.fr/actualites/legislativ…), which would make the situation even worse. Let's say they understand intuitively that the system is stacked against them, even if they haven't yet figured out how. And politicians are obviously doing what politicians do, meaning pandering to the people who actually vote, while pointing the young towards easier - and politically convenient - scapegoats. To be clear I'm not saying it's the only problem in France, VERY far from it. I'm also not saying that all old people in France live a lavish lifestyle at the expense of younger generations: there are also plenty of very poor retirees who, if anything, would deserve more. What I am saying is that it's probably the biggest elephant in the room: everyone can see it, nobody dares mention it - no politician, from any side, wants to run on cutting grandma's pension - and it makes every other problem harder to fix.

The curious thing is that the EU considers sanctions, asset seizures, economic coercion and information warfare perfectly legitimate instruments of policy, yet insists on portraying the ‘hybrid war’ as an entirely one-sided affair.
The “Russia is waging a hybrid war on Europe” narrative clearly serves a variety of interests. For starters, it helps governments maintain support for an increasingly unpopular war in Ukraine and for a continental rearmament campaign that will require painful cuts to spending on other sectors. As a report by the Latvian Institute of International Affairs put it, the “nebulous tagline” of hybrid warfare would appear to be driven “by the need to goose flagging defense budgets and waning NATO cohesion.” It has worked: the drone panic has led to increased counter-drone spending at both the EU and NATO levels. Meanwhile, intelligence services have invoked the threat of sabotage to gain broader powers. The specter of “Russian interference” also offers a broader authoritarian dividend, justifying everything from online censorship to the repression of dissent to election management — most egregiously in Romania, where an entire election was annulled because of an alleged Russian disinformation campaign for which no evidence of Russian involvement was ever provided. More recently, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, amid a push for greater EU ties, said it was “clear” that Russia interfered in the Brexit referendum, without providing any evidence, even though several investigations have found little or no evidence to support this claim. One may conclude that, to the extent that a “hybrid war” is being waged against Europe, it is being waged by the EU-NATO establishment itself against its own population, in the form of a prolonged campaign of psychological warfare aimed at inflating the Russian threat. MUST READ. The Republic goes fascist! France in a state of siege.
The Bunker State’s Silent State of Exception: Or, On the French Legislative and Administrative Synchronous Swim I want to quickly comment on what has been unfolding in France over the past days. France is by no means an isolated case, but the process underway there has just become much clearer and more visible than before. More importantly, what we are witnessing is not a single event. It is the culmination of a legislative and administrative trajectory that has been building since at least 2017—a year that falls squarely into the period when the imperial adaptation to multipolarity, the turn toward what I call the Bunker State, and the acceptance of specific territorial holding-and-staging functions by European NATO members slowly but surely began to take shape. (It also bears a striking resemblance to the legal and administrative architecture installed under Javier Milei in Argentina—a parallel process much less observed in Europe unless you are from or closely follow Latin America.) This likely warrants a full essay of its own, but for the time being, I want to leave you with the following: No State of Emergency Was Needed Reports from the ground in France over the past week have read like coming from a besieged city: Operation Sentinelle soldiers deployed domestically, Centaure armored infantry vehicles parked outside the National Assembly, elite counter-terror units (RAID, BRI, GIGN) mobilized alongside 70,000 police and gendarmes, last-minute route relocations pushing protesters onto the urban periphery (périphérique), over 30 metro stations shuttered or turned into search checkpoints with automatic €135 fines, curfews across a dozen cities, and private security guards patrolling commercial streets. These developments represent the synchronized activation of a statutory and administrative apparatus built between 2017 and August 2026 that blurs external defense and internal policing, subordinates civil rights to risk management, and integrates civilian infrastructure into counter-insurgency and hybrid-warfare planning. (The Bunkerstate, you see.) The most revealing fact of the October 2026 crackdown was that the government did not declare a formal State of Emergency (état d’urgence). Even as figures on the right demanded it, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu kept it in reserve while Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez told the Senate that the state would rely strictly on "mesures de droit commun" (ordinary law) and "police administrative." Why? Because the state of exception has already and basically been pre-installed into ordinary law. National Legislation: Normalizing the Exception & the "Continuum of Security" Over the last nine years, the French Parliament has systematically converted temporary emergency powers and wartime doctrines into permanent domestic governance: From Emergency to Ordinary Law: The 2017 SILT law permanently transposed post-2015 state-of-emergency powers into ordinary administrative law, creating warrantless "protection perimeters" and individual administrative surveillance measures (MICAS). Tested further during the 2024 Paris Olympics, this surveillance ratchet was locked in two months ago via the RIPOST Law of August 18, 2026, which extended algorithmic video surveillance (VSA) to 2030 across train stations and shopping centers, expanded automated license-plate reading (LAPI) to "public order at gatherings," and created a 72-hour emergency drone authorization for "urban violence" (with 14 police drones deployed over Paris this weekend, and over Lyon high schools earlier this month). Militarization and the "Continuum of Security": While the Global Security Law institutionalized the integration of private security into public order and restricted the documentation of police operations, LOPMI funded the physical militarization of internal security—most visibly the procurement of 90 VBMO Centaure armored vehicles equipped with 30-tube automatic tear-gas launchers, and remote weapon stations (yes, why?). Total Defense and the New Statutory Exception: Promulgated just two months before the October unrest, the revised LPM added €36 billion for high-intensity warfare, introduced a national service registry profiling citizens’ skills and disposition for military engagement (explicitly designed, in part, to free up soldiers for domestic Sentinelle deployments), and created a brand-new legal regime between peacetime policing and martial law (état de siège): the State of National Security Alert (état d'alerte de sécurité nationale). Alongside the Critical Infrastructure Resilience Bill (transposing EU Directives interestingly), it brings nearly 1,500 regional and local authorities, hospitals, transport networks, and civilian "vital importance operators" (OIV) under national security compliance, forcing civilian operators to maintain war stocks and authorizing private subcontractors for counter-drone warfare. From Subjects of Rights to Objects of Security In the Bunker State, the liberal social contract is inverted and changed: fundamental rights become conditional privileges granted by the executive, while welfare and social reproduction are weaponized as instruments of security compliance. Licensing the Right to Assemble: Ahead of the October 24 demonstrations, the Interior Ministry instructed prefects to judge protest declarations based on the "fiabilité des organisateurs" (reliability of the organizers) and to execute "contrôles des flux" in train stations to "identify persons who are not authorized to participate in demonstrations." President Macron stated flatly that requests from "people who have no legitimacy" would be refused and only marches co-signed by established trade unions would be permitted. Turning a constitutional, declaratory right into a state-licensed privilege. The "Casseur-Payeur" Bills & Conditioning Welfare on Obedience: Currently being fast-tracked through the Senate with government amendments announced by Nuñez on October 21, the "Breaker-Payer" legislation introduces collective civil liability of up to €10,000 for anyone remaining in a crowd after dispersal orders, establishes joint financial liability for the parents of minors, and revives pre-emptive administrative bans on protesting prior to any judicial conviction. Further, the bill lifts the legal unseizability of family, housing, and minimum-income (RSA) benefits to pay for state and insurer subrogation, while an interministerial circular signed by Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin and Housing Minister Vincent Jeanbrun on October 19 ordered prefects and prosecutors to cut social benefits (prestations sociales) and initiate public housing evictions "immediately," without even waiting for the law to pass. (For those who follow Latin America, this is the logic of the legal and administrative regime installed under Javier Milei and Patricia Bullrich in Argentina: "el que corta no cobra", stripping social assistance from anyone participating in roadblocks or unauthorized protests, billing social movements for the operational costs of their own repression, and reclassifying socio-economic protest as a threat to national security.) Hybrid Warfare Turned Inward: Military Substitution, Intelligence Primacy, and Austerity Planning When governmental planning is subsumed under hybrid-warfare doctrines and fiscal austerity, domestic dissent ceases to be treated as a political or social question. It is increasingly processed as counter-subversion, a threat to a society's stability. Civil-Military Fusion: Following an Élysée Defense and National Security Council convened specifically to address domestic protests, the government requisitioned regular army units under Operation Sentinelle on October 20 to act "en substitution" of internal security forces—guarding fixed institutional sites so that 70,000 police, CRS, mobile gendarmes, helicopters, and elite counter-terror units (GIGN, RAID, BRI) could conduct mobile street containment. Notably, this reversed Prime Minister Lecornu’s own 2025 doctrine that "one does not deploy the army against one's own people." Intelligence Services?: Macron’s strategic pivot centered on a summit "with all the intelligence services," after which the executive framed cost-of-living and social unrest as "seditious acts" (actes séditieux) orchestrated by the "ultragauche" and an "agenda of destabilization" ahead of 2027. The National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor (PNAT) was placed in observer status following the Limoges city hall arson, Territorial Intelligence (DNRT/SCRT) was pressured to map links to parliamentary opposition, and a 30-proposal Senate report led with calls to expand upstream human and algorithmic intelligence to track "at-risk groups" and criminalize mere participation in undeclared gatherings. Budgetary Austerity Sequenced Behind Security: All of this serves a rigid fiscal architecture. France’s 2027 draft budget enforces €43 billion in consolidation, freezing all state spending "excluding the increased defense effort", allocating +€6.4bn to Defense, +€1bn to the Interior, and +€0.4bn to Justice. With 24-year-high bond yields cited as the reason concessions are "unaffordable," the state ordered an entire week of total physical containment before scheduling a "social round table" for Monday, October 26. Dual-Use Infrastructure, Spatial Banishment, and Privatized Protection At the regional and municipal levels, national doctrine is executed through the unilateral power of the Prefect (arrêtés préfectoraux), backed by administrative courts and recent European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) jurisprudence validating pre-emptive protest bans in the name of a "pressing social need." Spatial Lockdowns and Peripheral Banishment: Rather than triggering parliamentary oversight via the 1955 emergency law, authorities imposed decentralized curfews across 12 cities and banned demonstrations entirely in Lyon and across 30 communes in the Bouches-du-Rhône (with administrative courts rejecting union and human-rights appeals across the board). In Paris, the institutional center was declared a "Red Zone" where exiting a metro station into an undeclared perimeter triggers an automatic €135 fixed administrative fine, while on Friday evening—less than 24 hours before the march—the Police Prefecture banished the demonstration from Bastille–Nation to the Boulevards des Maréchaux along the outer ring road. Dual-Use Civilian Infrastructure as a Filtering Airlock: Public transit networks now function as extensions of the Police Prefecture. Over 30 Paris metro stations across 9 lines were closed to sever urban connectivity, while anti-terror protection perimeters were applied to major rail hubs, empowering public transit networks' security agents to frisk passengers across every station in Île-de-France alongside police checkpoints confiscating protective gear (goggles, masks, serum). Simultaneously, digital infrastructure is co-opted under the EU Digital Services Act (DSA) "systemic risk" duties: platforms were summoned to the Interior Ministry, TikTok disabled protest-related search autocomplete, and Nuñez invoked 2025 Conseil d’État jurisprudence affirming that "nothing in principle forbids" the executive from suspending social media features during riots under "exceptional circumstances." The "Whole-of-Society" Approach and Privatized Security: Aligned with the 2025 Revue Nationale Stratégique (which anticipates the home territory targeted by "massive hybrid actions") and the June 2025 Stratégie Nationale de Résilience priority to "make all citizens useful in the service of the Nation's resilience," the Paris Prefecture opened a dedicated portal for citizens to upload video footage of protesters to feed investigations. Even more starkly, the state’s monopoly on protection is being commodified: while the Paris Prefecture advised shopkeepers to "participate in the security of their businesses" by hiring private guards and dog teams, Lyon Métropole and the Chamber of Commerce formally funded 40 private security agents in coordination with the prefecture to patrol downtown "sensitive zones." (Which reminds me a little of what happens during the movie "The Uprising" if anybody has watched it, based on historical events. The more things change....) What we see in France is a qualitatively transformed state—one that has re-engineered its legal, infrastructural, and fiscal machinery so that the state of exception operates silently as the ordinary rule of law, citizens are managed as potential vectors of hybrid destabilization, and the public square is governed like a military base. Unfortunately, this is a process going on in many countries. It is silent and only emerges at times when people start acting as the subjects rather than passive objects which the current imperial order wants us to become.

jake tapper trying to figure out in real time how to make israelis the good guys in a story where palestinian men protected a jewish woman from being assaulted by israeli settler terrorists
“It was like this biblical battle where the Palestinian men … went in front of me to protect … me and my rescuers from being attacked again,” Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine told Jake Tapper. Levine was kicked, beaten with clubs and robbed by Israeli settlers while covering Friday’s olive harvest in the occupied West Bank, leaving her with multiple broken bones. Speaking after leaving the hospital, she said Israeli soldiers charged Palestinian farmers as settlers advanced alongside them. She said that unlike her, Palestinian victims endure these attacks daily, with absolutely nowhere safe to go.

"Techno-Fascist-Oligarcy" nails it down, @battleforeurope @yanisvaroufakis The "liberal order" is finished and it get's bleak in times of history when "the people" or the Citizens are getting loud, because their interests & needs have been ignored far too long. In France, citizens are no longer "agonizing".
