Bernie Sanders says the top 1% owns more than the bottom 93%, that fewer than a thousand billionaires got $2.2 trillion richer last year, and that it's "obscene." It's the most seductive and most wrong economic argument of our time. Let me explain why. First, wealth distribution follows a power law. Always. Everywhere. Books, music, startups, followers on X, goals in soccer. A small minority captures most of the value. That's not a bug of capitalism. It's the mathematical signature of every system where value gets created. So the only question that matters isn't "how big is the rich's slice?" It's "is the cake growing, and is the slice of the poorest growing with it?" And the answer is yes. In 1990, more than one human in three lived in extreme poverty. Today it's about one in ten. During exactly the period when billionaires multiplied. Bernie shows you the slice. He never shows you the cake. Second thing he won't tell you: past a certain level, wealth stops being consumption. It becomes capital allocation. Elon Musk isn't sleeping on a pile of cash. He owns stakes in Tesla, SpaceX, xAI. Jeff Bezos owns Amazon stock. That "$2.2 trillion" isn't sitting in a checking account. It's factories, rockets, data centers, millions of jobs. Nobody can eat $100 billion. You can only decide where to invest it. Once you understand that, the whole debate changes. The real question becomes: who allocates capital better? The people who built Amazon, SpaceX and Nvidia? Or politicians? A 5% wealth tax isn't "taking money from the rich." It's taking investment decisions away from people who proved they can create value and handing them to people who proved the opposite. Because the fundamental difference between an entrepreneur and a politician is consequences. The entrepreneur invests his own money. If he allocates badly, he loses everything. The market corrects him brutally, no appeal. That's why most startups die: the system kills bad decisions. The politician invests other people's money. If he allocates badly, nothing happens. Worse, he gets a bigger budget to "fix the problem." Milton Friedman put it better than anyone. There are four ways to spend money. Your money on yourself: you care about price and quality. Your money on others: you care about price. Others' money on yourself: you care about quality. Others' money on others: you care about nothing. Government is the fourth box. By design. Perfect example: California high-speed rail. Approved in 2008 for about $33 billion. Current estimated cost: over $100 billion. Passengers carried: zero. No entrepreneur would have survived that. The politicians who pushed it built careers on it. And when allocation has no consequences, it eventually finds a buyer. A politician who controls billions without accountability becomes the most profitable target in the world for anyone who wants to steer that money. The irony is that the left that rails against billionaires is itself funded by billionaires. George Soros is one of the biggest Democratic donors in history. The Gates Foundation shapes public health policy across the planet. Politicians don't fight billionaires. They pick their own. The ones who fund the state over the ones who compete with it. So if we actually want fewer poor people, we have to stop judging ideas by their intentions and start judging them by their results. And the results are brutally clear. China, 1978: Deng Xiaoping opens the economy to markets. More than 800 million people escape extreme poverty. The largest retreat of misery in human history. Not through redistribution. Through the freedom to build. India, 1991: liberalization. Same movie. South Korea and North Korea: same people, same language, same starting point in 1953. One became one of the most advanced economies on earth. The other has famines. Poland and Ukraine: comparable living standards in 1990. Today the average Pole is more than three times richer than the average Ukrainian. Argentina: a year and a half of liberalization, and the poverty rate falls from over 50% to around 30%. No country in history escaped poverty by punishing the people who build. Every single one did it by letting them build. And if you want to see what Bernie's program looks like in real life, you don't have to imagine it. It exists. It's called France. We've been running it for 45 years. Mass nationalizations in 1981. Two years later, Socialist president Mitterrand has to reverse course into austerity. Retirement at 60. The 35-hour workweek. A wealth tax for 35 years. Hundreds of wealthy households left every year for Belgium, Switzerland, London, taking their capital, their companies and their future taxes with them. Macron finally scrapped it in 2018. Hollande's 75% tax: raised a few hundred million, drove talent out, abandoned after two years. One of the highest tax burdens in the OECD. Public spending around 57% of GDP, a record in the developed world. Last balanced budget: 1974. Public debt: over €3.4 trillion. Mass unemployment for four decades. If taxing the rich and growing the state made people prosperous, France would be the richest country on the planet. It isn't. GDP per capita in France is barely more than half of America's. It's lower than Mississippi, the poorest state in the US. Not a single global tech giant. Our best engineers build Silicon Valley instead. I've been going back and forth between Paris and San Francisco for years. I see it every week. And California is about to replay the movie. Prop 40, on the ballot November 3rd, would take 5% of billionaires' net worth. Even Gavin Newsom, a Democratic governor, opposes it. The state's own nonpartisan budget analyst warns that income tax revenue could drop every year if the wealthy leave. Larry Page, Sergey Brin and Peter Thiel have reportedly already started moving their assets out. You don't fight poverty by shrinking the top. You fight it by growing the cake. Bernie wants a society where nobody has too much. I want a society where nobody has too little. The first has been tried everywhere and produces equality in stagnation. The second lifted a billion people out of misery. Choose.
The top 1% owns more wealth than the bottom 93%. 1 man owns more wealth than the bottom 53% of households. Less than a thousand billionaires got $2.2 trillion richer in the last year. Obscene. Yes. We need a 5% billionaire wealth tax in California and throughout America.

One challenge that persisted in crypto is that almost intentional way of communicating complexity publicly. This among other things what leads to proliferation of scams as it’s easy for non experts to get lost in all the jargon and hard to distinguish what is real innovation. Same is happening now - cryptographers sharing the possible risks in current schemes publicly without either explaining that other solutions are already in the works or giving historic context that cryptography has been evolving over past 50 years and has advanced every time to get ahead of found issues. Leaders in the space must uplevel comms to explain things simpler and bring pragmatic solutions to market.
I think Justin Drake's latest alarmism/vagueposting is going to do a ton of damage in multiple ways. It's basically a huge self-own for their own advocacy work on quantum stuff. Threats from quantum/AI are real, and teams throughout this industry are making considered decisions about how to respond to those risks in a practical way, and to help their users navigate the uncertainty. Some of those teams have really good cryptographers with an excellent grasp on the decisions they can make, others have to take their cues from trusted experts. There are so many dimensions to optimize along! And due to the complexity involved, it's almost impossible to explain this stuff to non-cryptographers. Experts have to be cognizant of all this, and of their responsibility to be levelheaded. After the fog clears up and people learn from their cryptographer friends what is actually going on, they're going to discover this was (at best) an unintentional marketing stunt and a lot of trust will be lost. And nobody will really know what to do... This is a shame, because they are directionally correct. It actually meant something when they sounded the alarm before. They've just gradually descended into unhinged predictions without feedback to discourage it. Can anyone, I mean seriously anyone, justify this debacle? It permanently colors all the legitimate concerns/predictions about classical crypto going forward. By their own admission, there was no new information that drove this. I think Justin Drake should explain how he thought this was the right approach, even if he genuinely believed what he was saying. Baffling.

The US has made it clear: it is NOT going to wait for the CLARITY Act. The Senate blocked it 49-50. 48 HOURS later, the SEC approved on-chain trading of tokenized US stocks. Then the CFTC told Wall Street to prepare for MASS TOKENIZATION. And this month, a $114 TRILLION Wall Street giant is set to launch its tokenization service. Here's everything else that's happened since the vote: 1. CFTC sent its new rules for crypto trading and crypto markets to the White House 2. SEC proposed new crypto custody rules for advisers and funds 3. SEC approved the first 3x leveraged Bitcoin and Ether ETPs 4. SEC gathered NYSE, Nasdaq, Citadel Securities and Robinhood to plan 24-hour stock trading 5. Treasury is reportedly weighing a push for dollar stablecoins overseas 6. White House blamed the big banks for killing the bill 7. NYSE signed a deal to bring tokenized stocks to 44 MILLION crypto accounts 8. BlackRock, DTCC, Visa and Mastercard became validators on Circle's new Arc blockchain 9. Community banks sued to stop crypto firms getting federal trust charters 10. Bitcoin ETFs pulled in $3 BILLION in 9 straight days And what's coming next: - DTCC, which holds over $114 TRILLION in assets, is set to launch its tokenization service in October - US stocks are set to trade 23 hours a day from December 6 - CLARITY can still come back, after Sen. Tillis filed a motion to reconsider But one thing is clear, crypto is moving forward with or without the CLARITY Act.

There are ton of new and old devs building on NEAR in the past couple of weeks. Building itself got easier too, so it's really about what to build and how stand out to get distribution. Few ideas I wanted to share: - AI Tamagochi - use @near_ai to run verifiable inference from prompt encoded onchain, have each character as NFT with some $NEAR attached that pays for it's inference, add gamification with feeding, dressing. Can add all kinds of things on top with battle arena, competitions, etc. - Universal checkout widget - let any merchant/app to add "checkout" button that allows to pay via intents from whatever wallet and chain user has. Offer it to merchants, try to get it into Shopify. - AI encyclopedia with prediction markets - instead of community curation, every fact becomes a perpetual truth seeking market (Augur style). The final pages are generated by AI based on current market understanding. - Private OTC market using 'private deals' from NEAR Intents. Currently there is no way to find counter party unless you already know you are transacting with. Create a more open way to communicate what are deals open and allow people to fill them via NEAR Intents. - "Never get liquidated" - manage positions via NEAR Intents to keep lending and perp positions to maximize interest while not getting liquidated - Event registration where funds get escrowed and let the host to check in guests. If guests have showed up - they split all contributed funds (prev project was called Kickback). Make crypto side events signups reliable again, now across any chain and any asset. - Code review that is fully private - agent that verifiably privately runs code review on private PRs using @near_ai - Company cap table + all instruments around it to raise funds, accept crypto and support banking - Delta neutral anything - take spot + perp controlled via NEAR contract that manages it via NEAR Intents. - Private trading where you sell your viewing keys for people to follow/copy trade. NEAR Intents confidential trading is all private and so one can have a social trading app where people sell "keys" for only select people to see. PnL can be publicly displayed so people can choose to buy-in. - Private medical second opinion - medical frontend that e2e encrypts and sends your data to NEAR AI to get second opinion from AI in guaranteed private way. Use it in combination with crypto and fiat payments. Allow to have custom prompts in NFTs that people can use as a way to get better expertise out of agents. - Private Granola - desktop app that uses @near_ai to do private transcriptions but keeps all your records with you (and encrypted with your key backups). Use $NEAR staking as an alterantive to pay subscriptions. - AI benchmarking with private test sets. Submit harness (or new model in hosted privately in @near_ai) and evaluate on private tests sets and see results that are certified for given model and given hash of test set, without revealing any data. Distribution: - Engage @NEARLegion - Make sure your app supports every wallet via @aurora Intent Connect, so user from any chain can engage with it without bridging/figuring out NEAR - Engage other communities by cross pollinating - Don't forget about Product Hunt & similar product distribution - And ofc X

NEAR is permissionless programmable money. Permissionless means nobody needs permission to own and transfer assets, or deploy contracts on NEAR. It does not mean every application or liquidity provider must process every transaction. SHIELD is how NEAR Intents applies this in practice: shared, real-time risk intelligence that lets participants identify hacks and other incidents and choose not to facilitate stolen funds. Partners can both consume and contribute incident data. In the Bitget hack, SHIELD identified $50M+ in attempted flows through NEAR Intents and helped stop funds during execution. Open financial infrastructure does not require us to make theft easy. Instead of hiding behind "it's permissionless, what can we do" while sitting on pause button, we should be creative in solutions that are addressing underlying problem. We can have permissionless protocols that have intelligent defense. This is what we are building with SHIELD and invite everyone to join to make SHIELD industry-wide.

This is awesome. NEAR uses SHIELD to detect anomalies and hacked funds, preventing them from getting laundered through NEAR Intents. It's on us an ecosystem to protect property rights on-chain. And if there's one value we as an ecosystem can agree on, it's this: Fuck North Korea.

Oracle and SVRN built a proof of concept that adds stablecoin payments to Oracle Simphony, the point-of-sale system behind more than 6.3B transactions a year. It settles on NEAR, targets checkout in under 3 seconds, and sends settled funds straight into treasury, loyalty and supplier payouts. Oracle named four reasons it chose NEAR: - Fast execution - Low cost per transaction - Settlement across chains through NEAR Intents - Delegated authorization, so one account can act for another within set limits The last two are exactly what AI agents will need to pay on your behalf. svrn.net/news/oracle-svrn-st…
