Management called it "performance-based accountability". I called it a rather ingenious way of making profit from people’s desperation pro, my interns on my list. Thank God shrinking was a thing. I’d discovered that particular advantage quite by accident, but I wasn’t about to complain about a little extra income. There was something almost comical about watching the company’s newest intern, Jacob, work himself into a state over deadlines and performance reviews while I sat back, enjoying the view from my end of the arrangement.
