Fighting to keep San Diego America’s Finest City

And prices continue to climb. Further proof that there isn’t a housing shortage, and building more expensive housing never makes housing cheaper. You guys are the problem, not the solution
LA permitted 1,659 backyard homes in 2017 and 7,321 last year. A 2016 state law removed local barriers, so ADUs nearly became the city's top source of new housing. Meanwhile, apartment permits fell 35% from 2019.

This is why housing is getting more expensive in CA. The legislature is STILL chasing the wrong problem. CA housing prices are 70-80% land cost. Building more housing on increasingly scarce, expensive urban land only makes expensive housing. We need to build on cheap dirt
Well, look at that. CA is seeing a big increase in multifamily housing permits. We passed historic CEQA reforms w/AB 130 to make it easier to build housing & now we’re seeing momentum. There’s still lots of work to do, but this is an encouraging sign. ocregister.com/2026/10/08/ca…

Time to treat the illness, not pass it along
🚨 NEW: Sunbreak Ranch in San Diego will house the first Homeless Recovery Center, with up to 30 more coming across California. I’m honored to stand with the people behind it. George Mullen is one of its founders. Terry Caster and his family have put millions into helping San Diego’s homeless. John Lutack turned his life around 34 years ago by getting out of the drug world. They’ve spent years on this. As governor, I’ll help them get it done.

Expensive housing comes from expensive dirt. Expensive dirt comes from short supply of land. A short supply of land comes from dense urban infill. Expensive housing = Dense urban infill
Article surfaces about the inadequacy of the "supply" narrative. "As long as politicians insist “more supply” is the only solu- tion, while ignoring demand from investors, their housing policies will keep missing the mark." drive.google.com/file/d/1mnB… This chart gives all of the data informing the result:

Austin built starter single family homes on cheap dirt, not dense, expensive apartments that CA YIMBYs crow about. You have to build the right housing in the right place at the right price. For some reason, YIMBYs believe they can shape customer behavior to accept mediocrity
Austin grew its housing stock by 10.5% from 2021 to 2025, versus 3.2% nationally. Rents fell from above $1,600 to about $1,300, with the biggest drops in older, cheaper buildings.

San Diego corruption. Midway Rising is basically just us getting spat on by Gloria and the billionaires. And they will take us for another billion in taxes to “realize their vision.”
The developer gave more than $750k in political contributions & paid $205k to the union leader’s husband to get deal then flipped the project to an LA billionaire. Now SD taxpayers will get stuck w the bill. Only in SD are schemes like this cheered!

This could be a snag in the Midway Rising deal heading to Council today: The biggest selling point is 2,000 units of affordable housing but many of them could be required from projects miles away from the site. Other developers would pay Midway Rising. They won’t be “net-new.”

SANDAG is the epitome of unaccountable government. It’s not directly responsible to anyone and gives outsized power to politicians not elected to the position. All of the regional government associations should be dissolved.
#SANDAG originated as a county level planning organization 50 years ago. It has since evolved into a major government agency with 400 employees, and $1.5 billion budget, and its own taxing authority. SANDAG is also beset by ongoing accountability failures and management issues. ncpipeline.substack.com/p/sa…

Measure B is terrible. The last thing we need is more taxes, especially if it goes to a grossly dysfunctional county government.
The case against Measure B, and countywide sales tax increase, is made in detail by SD Taxpayers. 1. The measure as it contains no sunset clause, no year-over-year performance targets that would allow citizens to measure and track outcomes and creates an oversight body that appears to intentionally exclude any member from a taxpayer advocacy group. 2. W permanent new revenue stream is being layered onto a fiscal structure SD Taxpayers has already identified as unsustainable on its current path. Sustaining an unreformed cost trajectory with a new permanent tax does not demonstrate a commitment to long-term fiscal discipline that SD Taxpayers expects from local agencies. 3. Uncertainty surrounding whether the passage of this tax increase would automatically reopen one or more County labor contracts makes it difficult for voters to ascertain exactly how the new money would be spent. sdtaxpayers.org/policy-repor… axios.com/local/san-diego/20…

This scam majorly enriches Todd Gloria personally and politically while it will overburden and screw over San Diegans for decades to come. It’s Ash Street on steroids. Can’t count on city council or the state to save us.
This week, the Land Use and Housing Committee will consider the next steps for Midway Rising - which would bring 4,250 new homes, a modern sports arena, new parks, and jobs to the Midway District. After decades of talking about it, it's time to move Midway forward. #ForAllofUs

Midway Sinking keeps getting worse and worse. We can’t trust the city to do anything to protect the people’s interests. Gloria is too far into the developers pockets to run a balanced assessment. We need an independent analysis to assess the project BEFORE we sign away 49 acres
Another reason why we need a transparent, independent review of the proposed lease, and why we can’t trust @MayorToddGloria and the City Attorney to negotiate a deal that protects taxpayers: “Midway Rising May Not Create 2,000 ‘Net-New’ Affordable Homes”  voiceofsandiego.org/2026/10/…

No, Gloria won’t turn it around. Gloria had no executive leadership experience when first elected mayor and has been a gross failure since. He’s just a terrible leader. Period. His new selection for COO confirms he values loyalty over experience.

Midway Sinking will double the population of the Midway, overstressing fragile infrastructure, and clogging the Peninsula with double the traffic. To be built on a landfill over toxic waste on a flood plain, it’s an unneeded hazard and will cost San Diegans an estimated billion $
Big vision. Lasting impact. ✨ Midway Rising is projected to increase housing stock in the Midway neighborhood by 172%, bringing thousands of new homes and creating a more vibrant, connected community for San Diego. Learn more 👇 midwayrising.info

Just imagine be how high Newsom could get gas
Donald Trump set a new record today. Americans have NEVER paid over $4 for a gallon of gas nationally this many days in a single year before. #ThanksTrump

Nope. Gloria and the council have driven the cost of living in SD up. Trash tax, parking fees, excess staff, and terrible land “deals” all make SD more expensive and less livable
Donald Trump’s tariffs are the reason costs are going up. When I’m in Congress, I’ll fight hard to end these costly tariffs and make your life more affordable.
