The @IGADsecretariat partnering with Save the Children (@SC_RMCP) and @IOM_EHSA have kicked off a 3-days 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙎𝙞𝙢𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙥 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙊𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙨 (𝙎𝙊𝙋𝙨) 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙨-𝘽𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙣 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙤𝙫𝙚.
The SOPs aim to ensure that children on the move receive continuous, coordinated, and comprehensive protection support across borders in the IGAD region.
In her remarks, HE. Huria Ali Mahdi, the State Minister, Ministry of Women and Social Affairs, Ethiopia, said that the protection of children on the move requires strong coordination and collaboration across borders underscoring the SOPs as a framework to harmonise case management systems, strengthen accountability, and ensure continuity of care for children across borders.
Representing the Director @IGADHealthS, Yemisrach Benelfew, #SIMPI Coordinator, emphasised that the SOPs were designed to strengthen regional cooperation and ensure a coordinated, rights-based response to the needs of children on the move.
Emphasizing the scale of the challenge, the @IOMEthiopia Chief of Mission, Mme Abibatou Wane, reported nearly 900,000 movements along key regional migration routes, with children making up about 4%. She called for coordinated, rights-based responses at migrant response points along key routes.
The workshop brings together government representatives from Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Sudan, including senior child protection and immigration experts as well as frontline border officials, alongside international partners, NGOs, and civil society actors working in the field.

🌍💙 Proud to share the impact of @SaveChildren_KE and @USAIDSavesLives on families in Garissa! 🚰 Solarized water points are transforming lives, like Hussein* and her 4 children in Bulla Hothan. No more risky walks to crocodile-infested rivers for water. Child protection matters!
🌞 Thanks to the solarised water points, families now access clean water closer to home. However, concerns on sustainability arise with plastic tanks lasting 7 years. 🤔 Community members also worry about the future and the $2 monthly contribution during drought hardships. To ensure long-term water access, we need more investments addressing durability and community contributions.
🫱🏾🫲🏽 Grateful for @USAIDSavesLives, @USAIDKenya, and @USEmbassyKenya's support. Let's unite for a sustainable future!
