Alternatively, the actual story: A male sex offender appears to have entered a women’s changing room and allegedly sexually assaulted women. You know — the thing we all said could still happen regardless of whether you exclude trans people, police people’s bodies, or strip trans people of rights. There isn’t even a trans person in the story. The mere fact that the perpetrator is male is being presented as evidence against an entirely different group of people. And if your principle really is that the crimes of one person justify treating everyone in some wider category as suspect, presumably you’d be happy to have that principle applied consistently when somebody who shares your sex, politics or beliefs commits an appalling crime.
