Suffolk County Police arrested Antonio Masso on September 22. He was charged with Unlawful Surveillance, 2nd Degree. Detectives are asking anyone who may have been a victim of Masso’s to call Suffolk County Police at 631-854-8452.

SCPD’s Street Takeover Task Force responded to Express Drive North in Yaphank on Sunday at 1:10 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a large gathering of vehicles. When officers arrived, they observed vehicles racing before the group dispersed. Four people were arrested.

SCPD joined the festivities at the Central American Independence Day Parade in Bay Shore on Saturday.  There were floats, flags, food and music as Fifth Avenue became the salsa dancing capital of Suffolk County for the day!  We can’t wait to do it again next year.

Thank you to Mindy Perlmutter, Executive Director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island (JCRC-LI), who stopped by the Suffolk County Police Department on September 10 to deliver cookies to our officers in recognition of the 25th anniversary of September 11.

As we mark the 25th Anniversary of September 11, Suffolk County Deputy Commissioner Thomas Galati spent this week in Manhattan reflecting on the lives lost, honoring those who responded, and sharing the lessons that continue to shape public safety today.

25 years ago, SCPD Commissioner Kevin Catalina, then a Sgt. with NYPD, was on his way to work when the World Trade Center was attacked. Like so many first responders, he ran toward the danger to help. Today, he reflects on that day—and what the words Never Forget mean to him.

Suffolk County Police Officer Brendan Grogan was honored for his compassion, quick thinking and actions that helped to save a person's life. Officer Grogan approached a disabled vehicle on the Robert Moses Bridge last month and helped someone when they needed it most.

The SCPD remembers PO Robert Kirwan, who died of 9/11 related cancer on 9/9/23.    Officer Kirwan began his career in 1975 and was assigned to the Emergency Service Section in 1979, where he spent the next 30 years.     He retired after 37 years with the SCPD in April of 2012.

Central Records, Alarm Management Program and the Pistol Licensing Bureau will be closed in observance of Labor Day.

The SCPD remembers Lt. John McGarvey, who died of 9/11 related cancer on 9/3/22.   Lt. McGarvey served the department from 1972 to 2013. He was a Lt. Col. in the Army during Vietnam & continued in the reserves for 29 years. Lt. McGarvey was survived by his wife and 3 children.

Keeping Suffolk County roads safe isn't just about targeting aggressive and dangerous drivers, it's also about making sure the vehicles on the roadways are safe. The SCPD will continue to hold safety checkpoints to ensure commercial vehicles that travel on our roads are safe.

It’s time to get back to class, Suffolk County! The first day of school means busier streets, packed school buses & lots of little feet on the move.Crossing guards are on the front lines, keeping students safe as they cross the street. Thank you to our dedicated crossing guards!

They may have had their trailer stolen, but the theft didn't steal their Scout spirit! Boy Scout Troop 2014’s trailer and the contents inside was stolen earlier this summer. SCPD joined boy scouts at the Mangano Family Funeral Home, who donated a new, custom-branded trailer

Behind every child crossing the street is someone waiting to see them walk through the door. As we head back to school, please slow down, stay alert, put the phone down, and watch for children. Because someone is waiting for them to come home.

Smiles say it all. The SCPD & NYPD escorted the Vigilance Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club during the annual Brian "Smiles" Simonsen Memorial Motorcycle Ride. Simonson was an NYPD officer killed in the line of duty thwarting a robbery in 2019. We're proud to honor a hero.
