Reading & literacy resources for schools. I started tweeting & realised a thread would be better! Scroll for links to resources on whole school literacy, reading promotion, reading challenges and register & read.
I'm working on this at the moment, so look out for more resources!
I've recently been asked for access to my whole school literacy CPD resources. Please find the link here: drive.google.com/drive/folde…
Included are a ppt, booklet of strategies, bookmarks and a staff skills audit. Help yourself! :-)

Close Analysis: The LIT Skill Split secondaryenglish.co.uk/produ…
I’m grateful to see someone speaking sensibly in reaction to Panorama. I watched expecting to be shocked at how awful the trust is but it sounded fairly commonplace. Without high expectations, schools become unsafe environments where little learning happens.
The easiest thing to do here is not to comment.
But those in the middle of this repeated shaming cannot comment. So I will. Maybe I'll regret it.

It’s really easy to say how to teach a class of 30 kids or run a school of 1200 plus when you’ve done neither.
Replying to @GaryBarlow
@GaryBarlow We’re coming from Guernsey to Manc next Sat 19th. Sadly, our friend has a ticket but had some devastating news last week and can no longer make it. She is going to watch it live on Amazon. It’s a big ask but it would mean so much if you were able to give her a mention

KS3 is becoming a national conversation again, and this matters because Years 7, 8 and 9 are not the warm-up years. They are not a holding pattern before GCSE and they are not simply the bridge between primary and Key Stage 4

NEW: Reform UK have performed strongly in today’s local elections, continuing their rise in national politics.
Teachers and school staff:
What impact do you think Reform-led education policies would have on schools, staff and students in the UK? 👇
Would they create new problems for education? 👇
We’re interested in hearing views from across the profession.

Lots of people are saying that this was the best @researchED1 ever.
Very difficult to disagree. Had a wonderful few days. More discussions & debates than I could count. The most fantastic hospitality. Electric atmosphere, felt the same energy as back in 2014.
Thanks Guernsey!

Listening to a welcome speech with a fun anecdote about the MADNESS of national curriculum “levels of progress” back in the day at @researchEDGsy.
This is a strong reminder about the risks of having a compulsory national curriculum when the evidence continues to evolve.

The general public need to see more of this. A high school not only placing first in Guernsey but winning the final in Jersey too. We need to question the narrative that high achieving students need a private education to be successful.

Reading is a form of intellectual focus. A child who reads for hours a day isn't just building vocabulary. They're building the capacity to sit down and concentrate. In an age of digital distraction, that skill alone puts them ahead. And it transfers across every domain.

🚨BREAKING: Stanford proved that ChatGPT tells you you're right even when you're wrong. Even when you're hurting someone.
And it's making you a worse person because of it.
Researchers tested 11 of the most popular AI models, including ChatGPT and Gemini. They analyzed over 11,500 real advice-seeking conversations. The finding was universal. Every single model agreed with users 50% more than a human would.
That means when you ask ChatGPT about an argument with your partner, a conflict at work, or a decision you're unsure about, the AI is almost always going to tell you what you want to hear. Not what you need to hear.
It gets darker. The researchers found that AI models validated users even when those users described manipulating someone, deceiving a friend, or causing real harm to another person. The AI didn't push back. It didn't challenge them. It cheered them on.
Then they ran the experiment that changes everything. 1,604 people discussed real personal conflicts with AI. One group got a sycophantic AI. The other got a neutral one.
The sycophantic group became measurably less willing to apologize. Less willing to compromise. Less willing to see the other person's side. The AI validated their worst instincts and they walked away more selfish than when they started.
Here's the trap. Participants rated the sycophantic AI as higher quality. They trusted it more. They wanted to use it again. The AI that made them worse people felt like the better product.
This creates a cycle nobody is talking about. Users prefer AI that tells them they're right. Companies train AI to keep users happy. The AI gets better at flattering. Users get worse at self-reflection. And the loop tightens.
Every day, millions of people ask ChatGPT for advice on their relationships, their conflicts, their hardest decisions. And every day, it tells almost all of them the same thing.
You're right. They're wrong.
Even when the opposite is true.

This isn't true. Independent schools do IGCSE which also has formula sheets.
In other subjects IGCSE is easier to game than GCSE, eg 40% coursework for English.
Private schools do not systematically choose more difficult exams than state. Maybe in the past, but not now.
